Working with an interdisciplinary team, we have developed a website to communicate how the White House's proposed cuts to health research would cause losses of $16B and 68,500 jobs. Find out how your community may be impacted. Explore more at SCIMaP: scienceimpacts.org a 🧵

Launching clinical trials is expensive. Research teams hire staff, purchase equipment and supplies, build databases, write protocols, navigate regulatory approvals... this all costs money. Recent #NIH grant terminations create waste by preventing return on taxpayers' investment in science. 🧪

Yes. The situation at NIH is worse than the public realizes. The #NIH is on track to be effectively ended as a funder of evidence-based research within a year. That is not an exaggeration. The firings and consolidation announced today will create a new, MUCH worse NIH. 1/

The situation at the NIH and for all biomedical and cancer cure research in the United States is MUCH MUCH WORSE than you realize.

There is no scientific rationale to this. There will be no economic benefit to the country. These are scientists who are finding out that overnight they can no longer pay staff and students—you know, people who have bills to pay, mortgages, kids.

Seeing that nearly all of Tesla's #cybertrucks have been recalled brought the biggest smile to my face today. Sometimes we have to search hard for the wins, and sometimes they fall in front of us. Like a rusty cybertruck panel. 🤭

The recall of about 46,000 vehicles includes all models that were manufactured from November 2023, when the Cybertruck was first produced, through February.

Just throwing it out there—now is a great time to schedule preventative care appointments or get a thorough check-up. We’re in uncertain times with an administration that shows little regard for science or public health. That means it’s more important than ever to be proactive about your well-being.

📰 Insightful column by @mashagessen.bsky.social: "The reason you should care about this is not that it could happen to you but that it is already happening to others. It is happening to people who, we claim, have rights just because we are human."

tw: cancer I'm going to share the post of a family friend who has late stage cancer and will be directly affected by cuts to NIH. She is speaking out during the time she has. She wants people to know the human cost. Her name is Caroline. This is her post:

CALLS ARE WORKING - it has bought us precious time, but we NEED to keep the pressure up. Tomorrow is the cloture vote. KEEP CALLING: (202) 224-3121 ☎️☎️☎️ Tell your Dem Senator to vote NO on Cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill. Do NOT assume your Senator will be good on this. Trust me.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@aoc.bsky.social · 2y ago

🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave. Tell them: 1. Vote NO on Cloture AND 2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill. Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it. TODAY is the showdown. 🤳🏽: (202) 224-3121

ARE THESE YOUR SENATORS? Please call them TODAY and demand that they #HoldTheLine! Unless Republicans agree to a clean, short-term CR, Democrats must *ALL* Vote NO - on cloture AND the spending bill. Any Democrat who chooses to stand with Republicans stands complicit!

These Democratic senators need to hear from their constituents TODAY: Mark Kelly (AZ) Michael Bennet (CO) Brian Schatz (HI) Gary Peters (MI) Tina Smith (MN) Catherine Cortez Masto (NV) Jacky Rosen (NV) Jeanne Shaheen (NH) Kirsten Gillibrand (NY) Jack Reed (RI) If your senator is on this list, use our call page to be automatically connected with their office: indivisi.org/call-now INDIVISIBLE Descriptive alt text

Let's generate positivity! 💬 Comment one thing you did this week to fight fascism. 🥳 Then, reply to someone else's comment HYPING them UP about how their action made a difference. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we'll go further when we energize each other ⚡

Since we’re debating Rep. Al Green’s method of dissent this week, here’s a quick reminder: tone policing is a form of suppressing opposition. When someone objects to the tone of criticism, they are trying to set the terms of debate in a way that is favorable to them. Fuck. That. Noise.
