A lot of anti-socialism comes down to the idea that people need the constant threat of poverty to work hard. I believe the opposite. Give people security, dignity, and the chance to breathe, and most will find ways to contribute, create, and do incredible things.
“There’s no money” for universal healthcare, but there’s nearly $1 trillion a year for the military. “There’s no money” for Social Security, but there’s money for huge tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy.
Workers protesting layoffs, plant closures, AI-driven job cuts, healthcare reductions, or pension cuts will increasingly face a system that claims it has no funding for social programs. Meanwhile, massive amounts of money continue to flow to creditors, corporations, and the military.
The debt buildup stems from decades of tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy, military spending, and massive financial bailouts under both Democratic and Republican administrations.
Healthcare costs keep going up while people are stuck in jobs just to keep their insurance. We spend more and get less. It’s time to take healthcare off the employer’s shoulders and guarantee it to everyone through Medicare for All. www.commondreams.org/news/health-...
