Two pages of play from the sketchbook I just finished. ๐๐ ๐๐Itโs fun to flick through an old sketchbook, but I loooove starting a new one! โ๐ป๐ #kidlitart #๐๐
The first U.S. review Iโve read. Thank you, The Horn Book. ๐๐๐ฆ Iโve popped a couple of children in this post to illustrate how I might look on the outside and how Iโll be feeling on the inside, as I go on my walk this morning! @littlebrown.bsky.social @thehornbook.bsky.social #kidlitart #๐๐
Happy to say that our family in America will soon be able to walk down the road and see HAPPY ALL OVER in their local bookshop. ๐ Thank you, @littlebrownyr.bsky.social The U.S. edition is out on 5 May, but available to preorder. ๐ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/emma-... #kidlitart #๐๐

So happy to hear that the little girl I painted for the Paper Bird Illustration Exhibition and Thames & Hudson Illustration Award is on the short list. Thank you, Paper Bird Childrenโs Books & Arts and Thames & Hudson Australia. paperbird.com.au/illustration...
Iโve stuck at this job for a long time and there have been ups and downs, but making books still makes me happy. ๐ A thing like this is a lovely surprise. Thanks so much, @scbwi.bsky.social, and all who voted for HAPPY ALL OVER in the Crystal Kite Awards. I feel honouredโฆ and very happy! #kidlitart
Shame I only had one colour with me! ๐๐งฆ๐งฆ excited girl trying flavours at the ice cream stand. ๐ฅ๐ฆ #sketchbook #๐๐#picturebookillustration #kidlitart

Quicksticks. (Does anyone say that any more?) โ๐ป One of the speediest sketches Iโve done (not sure about the โthird eyeโ fringe line.) A boy at the park drawing in the sandpit. #emmaquaysketchbook #walktosee #kidlitart #illustrationart
A circle of sun on this rainy day: the paperbacks have arrived! MY SUNBEAM BABY in a new format, and I've always had a soft spot for a paperback. ๐ #kidlitart #๐๐ #PictureBook
My first ever #KidLitArtPostcard. ๐ I told myself Iโd post it on the very next first Thursday after watching @brianlarossa.comโs entertaining and enlightening talk for @scbwi.bsky.social Mid-Atlantic last month (saved up for while I was on my solo residency). Fun to join inโฆ at last! ๐ #PictureBooks
I'm back in my own studio in Sydney, with piles of pencil illustrations going on the scanner, one by one. โ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ Iโm finding rather a lot of tiny pen people in the margins (you'll see how tiny in the 2nd pic). Maybe theyโre trying to sneak into the bookโฆ #๐๐ #picturebooks #KidLitArt #emmaquaysketchbook
Iโm thrilled to discover "Happy All Over" has won the 2025 SCBWI Crystal Kite Award.
