Mayor Q

Personal account of Quinton Lucas, Mayor of Kansas City. “Aldi-Brand Obama.”

I won’t be able to run into you on the train en route to work this week, but perhaps on the temporary bus bridge! Routine maintenance to ensure our routes are smooth and steady for years to come.

Housing Kansas City. Creating more affordable and supportive communities for all. Proud of our work changing lives and circumstances for the better for tens of thousands of Kansas Citians, with more to come.

Crimes are down in most major categories across Kansas City. Intervention works. Community engagement works. Our city, our neighborhoods, our police, and our prosecutors are putting the work in to reach generational lows in crime in Kansas City.

High on my wish list for new direct flights are: 1. Mexico City (essential) 2. Toronto 3. Honolulu 4. London (or any on Europe’s Westside) 5. Cleveland (the lake is nice and we love Kelce). Our team at KCI does great work for new flight options each day. More to come!

I don’t know what y’all are talking about, but it’s been a while since my last Atlanta Hawks football game in Iowa City. Can’t wait to get back!

Leon Stapleton recently passed away at the age of 100. He was laid to rest today. He was loved in his community because he loved his community. Healthy groceries, good jobs, a safe stable neighborhood are what Leon brought to his stretch of 39th Street. We all miss him.

Satisfaction is on the rise in Kansas City. I ran eight years ago on “Potholes, Public Safety, and Progress.” We’ve made great strides on all three. More work to do!

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month, Kansas City! Our Latino communities have shaped our city through culture, entrepreneurship, public services, art, food, and community. This month we celebrate the history, traditions, and contributions. ¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!

There’s nothing like an active meeting. I’ve done a lot of “walks and talks.” I encourage the “bike and talk.” Thanks St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer for showing me the light.

Missouri is anchored on the west and east by two exceptional cities. Enjoyed spending time yesterday with St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer to work together to support the rights of our residents, safety in our communities with Prosecutor Melesa Johnson, and development for the future.

As of today, Kansas City stands at 96 homicides thus far in 2026. That is compared to 117 at this point in 2025; 116 at this point in 2024; and 141 at this point in 2023. Our work continues to drive down violent crime for a safer community in every corner of Kansas City.

Marijuana users and all other smokers and vapers, please be mindful not to smoke in or near children's playgrounds. While smoking is legal in parks, we ask that you be considerate of a smoke-free environment around our kids. Thank you! Enjoy your parks! Enjoy your legal freedoms, respectfully!

We’re among the best airports for passenger satisfaction in the US. We know passengers are more satisfied here than ever before. Now, we’re continuing our work to get you to more places than ever before with expanding domestic routes and ongoing work for further international connections from KCI!

Housing successes and housing challenges center on how well we listen and adapt our solutions for the people of our community. Kansas City is getting more people off the streets and housed than ever before and has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to build up housing.

I am saddened to hear that Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd has died. Our community is grateful for the decades of hard work he performed to keep us safe. My prayers are with his family, his friends, his colleagues, and all who loved him.

It’s always an honor to share Kansas City’s success in housing; our City’s climate leadership, and our ongoing growth and development before audiences across America and the world. Spent time earlier this week with my friend Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and the KC Chamber. More ahead!

The people of Missouri win. Statewide leadership in Missouri loses—again. The maps are back to how they were before. Thank you to organizers and Missourians—300,000 strong—who stood up for the voices of our neighbors. (h/t MO SOS Hoskins on the baseball bat thing. It’s fun!)

The question now before us is whether the US Supreme Court stands by Justice Kavanaugh’s earlier rejection of Missouri’s arguments—yesterday. The independence of our courts, our elections, and our state laws is at stake. Shame on those forcing constitutional crisis upon us

As someone who still teaches law and discusses federalism in my course, I do have to say thanks to Missouri's statewide electeds for stumbling into one hell of a fact pattern for the next exam.

I recently sat down with Kara Swisher to talk mid-decade redistricting (and Missouri!), immigration enforcement harming our communities, and how cities are becoming safer. Proud to join the mayors of Denver and New Orleans for the chat. 🎧 Listen to full conversation. Link in the comments.

Thanks to the kids, parents, and an outstanding community at Border Star Elementary for letting me join their bike bus to school this week. @bikewalkkc.bsky.social organizes these around town. Looking forward to riding to your school soon to support safe routes for our kids and all!
