MLB insider, SNY

It will be months/years before we know whether David Stearns played this deadline right for ‘27 and beyond. What is clear now is this: With his Mets future in the balance and his vision under fire, he stuck to the playbook that got him here. sny.tv/articles/dis...

'Disciplined' David Stearns betting patience will pay off for Mets long-term

David Stearns stuck to his plan – a patient approach to the MLB Trade Deadline centered on trading assets for prospects regardless of big league need. Time will tell if Mets' moves are viewed as hard-...

Stearns made the point that if you pursue the top talent, versus trying to meet immediate need, you might get some players who surprise you and meet those needs anyway, à la Ewing this year. It’s optimistic, but it’s instructive to his approach.

Scout's report on Stafura: At SS now and has good range. Strong for his age. Might not have the hands to stick at short and eventually could fit best in CF. On a big tear in Class A right now, so feels like Mets might be buying high here.

Nothing final, but hearing from multiple people with knowledge of the talks that Pirates are the current favorites to land Luke Weaver, as @Joelsherman1 said. Unclear if someone else might be in the deal. Pirates could use a righty outfielder.

Confirming Mets sending Brooks Raley to the Phillies for outfielder John Spikerman and RHP Luke Galbrysh, as others have said. Spikerman is No. 27 in a weak system per pipeline, for what that’s worth. Galbrysh putting up more than a K/inning as a starter in High-A.

Davis is 6’9” hurler with top-end velo, former college teammate of Carson Benge and Nolan McLean. Top 20 prospect per MLB pipeline. Franklin was in AAA and seems* like he might be ready to help eat innings for Mets down the stretch. *seems = no one up at 2 am to say for sure

Mets are trading Huascar Brazoban to the Chicago White Sox In exchange for RHP prospect Gabe Davis and RHP Zach Franklin, according to a person familiar with the deal. @YancenPujols and @Ken_Rosenthal first on it.

Mets officially recall Robert Stock to start today’s game. Was dealing with thoracic outlet/shoulder issues that threatened his season a month or so ago. Cool to see him back in the big leagues so soon after. Bryce Conley also recalled as Kevin Herget is DFA’d, Pintaro optioned.

Clay Holmes says the current plan is to pitch in a rehab outing in Class-A Brooklyn tomorrow. Said there haven’t been any new extension talks and that he expects to get traded at this point. Also said front office has kept in good communication throughout.

Orioles just announced they signed Yennier Cano to a two-year contract extension with club option for 2029. Wasn’t clear whether they would trade him, but now seems to take another top reliever off the board… potentially ups Weaver value. Just my speculation.

Freddy Peralta is no longer expected to pitch for the Mets tonight, according to a person familiar with their plans. Makes sense not to risk injury or waste a start he could make for new team. @Joelsherman1 was first with this.

Clay Holmes appears to be preparing to throw his bullpen and Freddy Peralta is out throwing, too. Brooks Raley and AJ Minter are also out throwing. I have also seen Luke Weaver. You’re up to date on the Mets trade deadline, pitching edition.
