The terminology of "low quality" men/women is incredibly Trumpian and that language's popularity in certain parts of our culture signals comfort with fascist interpretative frameworks
Over and above the systemic white supremacy we see throughout US history, the parallels between what we’re seeing now and the desires and demands of those who would soon be Confederates or Klan are remarkable because the philosophy guiding these factions in these very different contexts is shared.
Cannot emphasize enough that the morass we find ourselves in everywhere is a result of this commitment to white supremacy. The eugenic health policy, the belief and desire for US autarky, meddling & murder in Latin America, the half-cocked belief that the US could bully Iran- it really is.

Should this come to pass (which I agree is likely and would be quite terrible) this will be the second time in six years that Dems will assume power to respond to Trump/GOP excesses and not do so People will feel the truth that liberalism cannot fight fascism but not know how to articulate it

3 years since Oct. 7. Count me among those who were appalled by the atrocity and appalled knowing atrocity would follow. Made things worse for just about everyone, except a few awful people who exploited it, and has left so many innocent people dead or suffering. I wish none of this had happened.
The way I’d frame it is Trump is a permission structure. He gives both parties space to act or not act on policies they would’ve previously thought unthinkable. What we’re seeing now is an attempt to maintain that permission structure without Trump actually being in power à la Reagan.

This type of logic undergirds so many arguments (journalistic, academic, etc.) about music to the point that I theorize an important social function of music discourse in the US (and a primary reason it continues as part of our commercial media) is to launder/normalize white supremacist reasoning
