My deepest and sincerest apologies to everyone whose work I critiqued, saying that your villain was over-the-top or cartoonish. I’m so sorry. Now I understand that there's no such thing as a too-ridiculous villain. In fact, there is no ceiling to ridiculousness. I’ll do better.

New story day! "The Matador and the Labyrinth" is up at Diabolical Plots. Borges meets Hemingway. www.diabolicalplots.com/dp-fiction-1... The image is from a kylix drinking cup, c. 515 BC. The inscription around the edge reads "The boy is beautiful."
Just picked up this sweet lady from @ccfinlay.bsky.social and @raecarson.bsky.social so she can enjoy her fur-ever home with @authorjlhenry.bsky.social. She's a little unsure about the cat carrier but seems eager to live her future princess lifestyle!
Due to extreme cold, we experienced a rapid unscheduled disassembly of a water pipe and now have several inches of standing water in our basement and no running water at all while we wait for the plumber. But here's a picture of Agatha, an absolute knockout of a cat who is visiting us temporarily.
Laurel Amberdine just died aka @amberdine.bsky.social - one of the first ppl I actually hung out with in the field... she'll be missed by many - including @johnjosephadams.com & @lightspeedmagazine.com folks, @effies.bsky.social , & others who knew her. Very sad news. locusmag.com/2025/01/laur...

Maybe it’s a sign of menopause but my fridge’s crisper drawer has found new life as the cheese drawer.
It’s a little known fact that god created feet to help us find our cats' puke even in the dark. You’re welcome, and Happy New Year.
if you’re a true friend, you’ll remind me to never again cut my hair without wearing my glasses
Fondly remembering that time I got so sick of doing dishes that I threw them all in the trash and bough paper plates

I’ve made the important decision to spend my flu recovery time re-reading the Murderbot Diaries.
Last night I dreamed up a Star Wars / Buffy crossover, and I woke up with very mixed feelings about it not being real.
I regret to inform you that this kitty suffers from an unbearable condition known as Acute Snuggle Deficit. We’ve tried everything. There is no known cure. #EyeOnOdin
For those of us with seasonal depression, putting up holiday lights is a stand against despair, a determination to find joy in the darkness. So please don’t judge when we put up our lights waaaay too early and keep them up waaaay too late! 🤩🤩🤩
The honest truth is that when I’m on a tight deadline, I live like a barbarian. Wrappers and take out containers everywhere, the cat boxes stinking, dishes in piles, used tea bags. . . I’d take a picture, but I’m too embarrassed.
This is the face of a kitty who just had his Most Perfect Prized Possession cruelly stolen by his horrible mom. (A leaf. It was a leaf) #AShotOfWhiskey

"The decision not to publish was made by The Post’s owner — Amazon founder Jeff Bezos." I worked at the paper for seven years and Bezos never interfered with a thing. This is five-alarm fire stuff. www.washingtonpost.com/style/media/...

Rae and I have watched so much women's college basketball the past four years that if we talk about the Buckeyes or Hawkeyes or Huskies or the Cardinal, it's a women's team. By default. To prevent confusion when we talk about the men's teams we add a word, the Gentlemen Buckeyes, Hawkeyes, etc.
READ IT! You're in for a treat.
The new issue of Clarkesworld contains "Hello! Hello! Hello!" by Fiona Jones, one of our students last year at Clarion. We loved this story back in week 5 then and we love it now. A great debut. Brilliant, fun, and big-hearted. Highly recommended. clarkesworldmagazine.com/jones_03_24/
I was so shocked and sad to see this terrible news about Jaime Lee Moyer, who was not only a lovely writer but such a supportive member of the fantasy-writing community: www.facebook.com/12429579/pos... She will be remembered. ❤️
