This is a presentation to the AGM of the Knowledge and Information Management group of CILIP, the UK Library and Information Association. It discusses how so-called soft skills are at the core of information work. KM/IM is relational by nature: convening, brokering, facilitating, negotiating jurisdiction.These skills are relational infrastructure which strengthens organizations and their interactions. They support specialist skills and make those with them more effective. However, they are often underinvested in and undervalued.‘Soft’ does real harm as an expression: it underestimates real labor, and can encourage gendered reception, …The presentation also discusses CILIP's framework for skills.
