Hub director David Barber calls for collaborators to help his team achieve their ambition of training a one-step generator from scratch, without first training a diffusion model. "We'd love to show the world that you don't need diffusion models... we want this to be the 'diffusion model killer'."

Day 2 of Hub X began with a keynote by David Pfau who introduced his 2025 @icmlconf.bsky.social paper on Wasserstein Policy Optimization, a method with potential applications in robotics. He also explored the connection between quantum physics and reinforcement learning, and where it comes up.

In today's keynote, @arnauddoucet.bsky.social outlines an unsupervised method that overcomes the lack of clean source audio data for training state-of-the-art models. SURF can clean audio, for example, by separating a band's performance from crowd noise, matching supervised generative baselines.
