🚨 BREAKING: Tarrant County, TX is trying to eliminate HALF of their polling locations ahead of the midterm elections. This isn't about budget constraints, this is about denying Black voters and voters of color equal access to the polls! But that won't happen on our watch.

🚨 The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee voted to move Todd Blanche’s nomination as U.S. Attorney General forward. Todd Blanche is unfit for Attorney General. Our Justice Dept. needs a leader who will uphold the law, not play into the admin's agenda. We urge the full Senate to block this nomination.

Confirming Todd Blanche as U.S. Attorney General Moving would be a slap in the face to the American people. Todd Blanche is a self-proclaimed puppet of the Trump administration, not the protector of our laws that the Justice Department needs. Say NO to his confirmation now: 202-224-3121!

🚨 A federal court in Jackson, Mississippi ruled to let Rankin County School District leave Black students behind in a school system filled with racial disparities. Black students deserve to receive an equal education, and we will continue to fight for them until they have it. https://bit.ly/4xDja27

Black Fact of the Week: The 15th Amendment banned denying Black men the right to vote because of race in 1870. But states created new barriers to block Black voters. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 helped dismantle many of those barriers, but the fight to protect voting rights continues today.

The image features a person holding an "I Voted" sticker, with a background of a poll tax receipt. Text reads: "Black Fact of the Week: The 15th Amendment didn't guarantee Black people's vote, the Voting Rights Act did. The 15th Amendment prohibited denying the right to vote based on race, but many states pushed back with literacy tests, poll taxes, and intimidation tactics designed to suppress Black voters. The VRA of 1965 expanded federal protections by banning discriminatory voting practices." The logo "LDF" is in the top right corner.

🚨 The U.S. Dept. of Education wants to dismantle the Equity Assistance Center (EAC) Program, a program that has helped desegregate schools & make the promise of Brown v. Board a reality. We urge the Department to support EAC in building an equitable public education system. https://bit.ly/4x3g3js

LDF Urges Education Department to Abandon Rule Eliminating Crucial Regulations for Equity Assistance Centers

On July 24, the Legal Defense Fund (LDF) submitted a public comment to the U.S. Department of Education in strong opposition to a newly proposed rule to rescind the Equity Assistance Center (EAC) Prog...

🚨 BREAKING: Last night, Florida made history for all the wrong reasons. The state executed James Duckett, and Dominick Occhicone, on the same day. This is the state’s first double execution day in over 60 years. The only way to prevent these horrors from continuing is by ending the death penalty.

🚨 BREAKING: The Temporary Protected Status of Haitians has ended, placing over 350,000 Haitians in danger of deportation. This opens the door for increased ICE enforcement, but let’s be clear: ICE does not have the right to abuse and violate the rights of immigrants.

🚨 Yesterday, Corey Ruiz was shot and killed by a police officer. Acts of police violence have been an all-too-common part of daily life in America. We are demanding transparency and accountability from the agencies that are supposed to protect us, not hurt us! https://bit.ly/4vQ6kft

🚨 WE NEED YOUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION! On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on Todd Blanche's nomination. Yes, the same Todd Blanche who served as the President's personal attorney. Call your senator today at (202) 224-3121 and urge them to vote NO.

🚨 The EEOC proposed to rescind EEO-1, a long-standing data collection tool used to address workplace discrimination. Without it, discrimination does not go away. It just becomes harder to identify and easier to ignore. On Black Women's Equal Pay Day, we urge the EEOC to keep EEO-1 in place!

John Lewis was 21 when he joined the Freedom Riders. MLK Jr. was 26 when he started leading the Civil Rights Movement. Claudette Colvin was 15 when she refused to give up her seat on the bus. You’re never too young to make a difference.

🚨Trump has spent years trying to convince Americans our elections cannot be trusted, despite his claims being disproven again and again. Tonight’s speech was not about protecting democracy it was about keeping his agenda alive. A president should build trust in elections, not keep tearing it down.

🚨 Lorenzo Salgado Araujo should still be here! ICE's claims about what happened to Mr. Araujo are SUSPECT, so we're calling on Congress to hold ICE accountable by demanding transparent investigations into all of ICE's recent murders. https://civilrights.org/resource/ice-shootings-202607/

Coalition Sign-On Letter on ICE Shootings

ICE and the Department of Homeland Security have a long history of using deadly force and refusing to hold officers accountable.

Today we honor Philando Castile, who was tragically killed by police during a traffic stop just days before his 33rd birthday. Black families should not have to live in fear of their loved ones’ safety. We demand real public safety and an end to systems that were built to hurt us.

🚨 Todd Blanche is NOT qualified to lead the Department of Justice. His hostility towards civil rights prove that he is unfit to serve as the nation’s top law enforcement officer. We urge the Senate to vote NO on his confirmation.
