To everyone working on DAG-CBOR/DRISL implementations. There was a small update to that specs that shouldn't cause much problems, but is newsworthy: negative zero -0.0 is now forbidden. I recommend serializing it with the bytes from `0.0`. github.com/ipld/ipld/pu... github.com/darobin/dasl...
fix: reject -0.0 by vmx · Pull Request #65 · ipld/serde_ipld_dagcbor
For IEEE 754 floats -0.0 is equal to 0.0. It makes sense to have only a single representation for the same numbers, hence always encode it as 0.0, i.e. 0x0000000000000000.

I made an late night walk and suddenly memories from 18 years ago when I spent a year in Australia fleshed my mind. I wondered why, until I realized that it might be the humid 25°C at 10pm. #CutCopy #ThePresets #ThePotbelleez #Pendulum #TheGrates #BritishIndia

Slides from today's IETF ATP WG meeting about floats: datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/126/... Main point: you want to be able to store arbitrary JSON as ATProto record? Let's do it and add floats in a straightforward way which almost all programming languages support out of the box.

I really liked this idea of using a histogram as a legend in a choropleth map (since land isn't unemployed; people are), so I made a little guide to doing it with #rstats, {ggplot2}, and {patchwork} www.andrewheiss.com/blog/2025/02...
How to use a histogram as a legend in {ggplot2} | Andrew Heiss
Land isn’t unemployed—people are. Here’s how to use R, {ggplot2}, {sf}, and {patchwork} to create a histogram legend in a choropleth map to better see the distribution of values.

Your map’s legend can be turned into a histogram, helping your audience understand the distribution in addition to decoding the colours.

You want to store (almost) arbitrary JSON as ATProto records? My floats proposal at mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/atp... would enable that. Join the mailing list and help making it come true.

Interesting approach by the @ec.europa.eu to just ignore their own scientific service (JRC), which only 8w ago explicitly recommended to support @eurosky.social in this paper: https://publications.jrc.ec.europa.eu/repository/handle/JRC144603
We have now joined W, a new European social media network. We’re present on 15+ platforms, and are especially happy to join one based in Europe and with the ambition to foster open and safer online conversations. Keep the conversation going - whether from W, Bluesky or other compatible apps.
