I have seen 50 species of moth, which is kind of a lot higher than I was expecting for this point in the year. I've been to way more moth trapping events than I was ever expecting!

Just found out that the grass snake we get in the UK is no longer natrix natrix, but instead natrix helvetica. I am devastated, especially as the reclassification happened in 2017! I am almost a decade behind on my #grass-snake news!

I am currently at 185 species out of 1000 for the year, which is good, but I am behind schedule by 78. The year is still long, and I am yet to get any dragonflies, or do moth trapping. I have been focusing on ground beetles which means lots of log flipping! #PSL @sussexwildlife.bsky.social

First Peacock Butterfly of the year just outside my GP surgery!

I like how neat and tidy the first few days of my species record book is. It really starts to spiral into a mess on the 3rd of January, and by the 6th, it is just completely unsaveable.

Smooth, Palmate and Great Crested Newts have made my total species seen this year sit at 147. I am currently slightly behind my target, but I am yet to tap into plants and insects. I've seen 86 bird species so far, and 21 different species of fungi.
