UPDATE: Gluesenkamp Perez responds: "My heart breaks for children who don’t feel safe letting their parents into their world. But divorcing a young child’s school life from their home life doesn’t resolve the underlying problem of an unsupportive family." More: www.huffpost.com/entry/8-demo...

8 Democrats Help Pass GOP Bill Forcing Teachers To Out Transgender Students

The bill requires educators to get parental consent for changing a student's pronouns or preferred names on any school forms. It also bans teachers from talking about trans people at all.

Hi #impsci friends! Last fall we re-launched our website with a fresh design and new features like the Equity Check for each step on the Research Pathway. Have you used this feature? Any feedback for us? To explore, begin at Step 1: bit.ly/2VPyJEu. Imgs show Equity Checks for Steps 1 & 2 (of 8):

PAUSE AND REFLECT: EQUITY CHECK
❯ Does your research question address or involve inequities in health outcomes, access, or quality of care among different populations?

❯ Have you (and how have you) engaged with the communities affected by the inequities to ensure their perspectives and needs are reflected in the research question?

❯ Is answering this question or addressing this inequity a priority of the population(s) involved, or do they have different priorities?

❯ Does your research team include anyone from the community or communities you wish to study?

❯ Have you considered the social, economic, and cultural contexts that may influence variation in implementation and subsequent outcomes of the intervention?

❯ Are there system-level factors, such as policies and organizational practices, that could impact equity in the implementation process?

❯ Has the population you wish to conduct research with experienced historical or contemporary harm that could impact their desire to participate or shape the implementation process and outcomes?PAUSE AND REFLECT
EQUITY CHECK
Does the T/M/F:

❯ specify the social, cultural, economic, and political contexts of the research?

❯ account for the needs and contexts of various demographic groups impacted, particularly those who are historically or currently marginalized or underserved?

❯ recognize and aim to dismantle existing power structures that contribute to inequities, including consideration of who has decision-making power and how it can be equitably distributed?

❯ emphasize building trusting relationships with communities and incorporating community-defined evidence so efforts are culturally relevant?

❯ address macro-, meso-, and micro-level influences on equity?

❯ encourage ongoing critical reflection on how well it advances equity and continue to identify areas for improvement?

Hey, @schumer.senate.gov :: you better not be playing cute with your language about stopping the SAVE Act. I hope you intend to VOTE NO ON CLOTURE, as opposed to what you did with the CR when you told us you'd vote no on the bill, but still voted YES on cloture. We are in no mood for games.

There's more from fed workers in the piece, and I keep hearing from others. Such as: "Chuck Schumer is a coward who betrayed federal workers after deliberately taunting us for a week with the hope that someone in power gave a single shit about us."

Dave Levitan@davelevitan.bsky.social · last yr.

"I don’t get paid if there’s a shutdown but shutting the government down and putting up a fight is preferable to giving in." "Every single one of my colleagues supports a shutdow." "Everyone I know in my office was hoping the Dems would grow a spine and shut the government down."

Millionaires stop paying into Social Security today. That’s because they've now made $176,100, and hit the contributions cap. Billionaires made that much about an hour into the year. Elon Musk did in just 15 minutes. Tax the rich. Scrap the cap.

We need to organize--let’s help each other. NIH is cancelling grants, but it's not clear exactly what they're cancelling and why. Without this information, we can't respond. I've started a Google Sheet to track grant cancellations. Please add any canceled grants you know of and spread the word!

NEW: The NIH has begun terminating grants for active projects studying gender identity, DEI, environmental justice, climate change, among other topics. At least 16 termination letters have already been sent — and hundreds more are coming, people inside NIH tell me. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
