Ooh. Exciting. I’ve seen some details of what’s coming here. You’ll want to be on board.
This kicks off TOMORROW! My swansong series in the Producer seat, six episodes over six weeks, with the second half of the series to follow. But before [REDACTED] and [DEFINITELY REDACTED], the end of the universe, an old enemy and a brand new friend…
If you’re looking for a Sam Neill tribute watch this evening, can I recommend this gorgeous film and performance?
Ennio Morricone is, of course, Italian for ’Eric Morecambe’.
No one expected Keir Starmer to solve our pressing problems overnight. But what we did expect – and had every right to expect – was that he would lay out a clear vision and roadmap for doing so. Instead, we’ve had drift, appeasement and a startling absence of ideas, values and ambition. 🧵1/6
He has prostrated himself before the far right in a futile attempt to attract its voters, as if the vast body of evidence which shows that this NEVER works - and only legitimises hate and racism - did not exist. In doing so he has lost his real voters, alienating his base in spectacular fashion.
Wow, I can't believe Labour's tactic of yelling "DON'T VOTE FOR THESE GREEN CUNTS, THEY'RE DANGEROUS, VOTE FOR US, WE HATE IMMIGRANTS IN A BETTER WAY THAN REFORM!" hasn't led to them keeping all their council seats.
I’ve been thinking about The Gunfighters a lot recently for… ahem… reasons. So love this so much.
NEW ARTWORK! It's been 60 years since Dr. Who visited Tombstone for a dental emergency and what he got instead was a gunfight. Yeee-haw!! 🤠🐎 My group of artist friends wanted to make posters for The Gunfighters for its anniversary, so I had to join and make one! #DoctorWho #WilliamHartnell

OBAA and Sinners are both big, bold crowd pleasing hits. A comedy action and an historical horror. Hugely entertaining. For them to be the two big winners of the Oscars is great. For me the best film of the year got nominated precisely once - for Best International. But I’m delighted regardless.
I listen to a fair number of audio books and the method by which I get most out of them is to combine them with some physical and practical task (eg cleaning, cooking, tidying, washing/dressing etc) that would otherwise cause my mind to wander from lack of stimulus
Update. The solution WAS the blindingly obvious one.
I’m researching whodunnits for a spec and currently reading Whose Body? (The first Lord Peter Wimsey novel). It’s fun but it feels like the solution is blindingly obvious about twenty pages in and now Peter’s figured it out but kept it to himself and I’ve about 30 pages to go.
The history of the last generation has been right wing parties scraping a technical victory by the thinnest possible margin, then ruling like tyrants, then centre-left parties winning decisively and deciding the nation can only heal if they enact right wing policies.

I may have mentioned that an upcoming @bigfinish.bsky.social script was the ‘most Dorney ever’. We recorded it yesterday. Coming soon.
Started Charlie Higson's #JekyllAndHyde, one of ITV's attempts to lure away Doctor Who's audience into 2010s. Doomed to fail: you can't make people who like Doctor Who suddenly switch to you by being a bit like Doctor Who. If you like Doctor Who, you'll always go for that above pale imitations.
I’m trying to remember a specific film/failed franchise based on an IP where they held off on using the major villain in the launch film in full expectation of a franchise. And then flopped. I feel there’s a few that probably fit but there’s one I’m trying to remember in particular. Any help?
“I didn’t have rich parents, a childhood bedroom to return to or an infatuated billionaire intent on marrying me. Either writing had to make me money or I couldn’t do it. “ I wrote about making a living from writing in the new economy. substack.com/home/post/p-...

Not a new thought but: The amount of unpaid work a freelance writer expected to do to get a TV show commissioned (or even glanced at) is just unsustainable if you don’t come from a wealthy background or have pre-existing financial security. We’re missing out on brilliant stories & brilliant people

As if to reiterate this, the series ends with Nicola Walker leaving a cafe I happen to know is outside Kensal Rise station and walking in the exact direction you take to get to the old Moat Studios where we recorded them (I know cos this was the exact route of my commute!)

I think I preferred Hugo from the Traitors when he played the Curious Orange.
