Well, that’s wrap! A huge thank you to everyone who took part in #5DebutAlbumsFinal Around 500 voted, fittingly making it one of the best supported polls for some time. The final top three were:- 1) The Stone Roses - S/T 2) Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures 3) The Velvet Underground & Nico - S/T..
Hi folks, for the last time (apart from the year end poll 😉) it’s time to vote, it’s the big one, #5DebutAlbumsFinal We’ve whittled the albums down to a final 100 (see list to follow), a veritable treat to the eardrums each and every one. Your task, pick your top 5 in order of preference, mine are..
On this momentous date in history 25 years ago, I packed my Nissan Bluebird with most of my worldly possessions (records) and set out from Corby to begin what turned out to be a new life in Hull. It's certainly been eventful. #5DebutAlbumsFinal
#5DebutAlbumsFinal Pod—Breeders I may be wrong, but it looks like Kim is the only artist to appear on two albums from this illustrious list. If so, it's an honour well deserved. Pod is an album closer to SR than Doolittle; equal parts divine and profane. It's glorious #musicsky #vinyl #nowplaying
#nowplaying #5debutalbumsFinal Joy Division’s ‘Unknown Pleasures.’ (1979) This cornerstone of post-punk is an influential classic that’s sure to place at the highest level , blending punk with the rich atmospheres of prog and the bleak guitars of heavy metal under Curtis’s brooding baritone vocals
One of the great joys of these polls has been finding new music, so it seems fitting for at least one such discovery to make my #5DebutAlbumsFinal list - this is probably my top contender amongst these - the gradual, subtle shifts and interplays are hypnotic - an album to truly immerse oneself in
#5DebutAlbumsFinal George Best - The Wedding Present Would definitely have been in my top five when I was 18.
Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill (1995) #5DebutAlbumsFinal Another huge record, if I was doing these rankings by how often I played them upon release this would easily be top three.
Welcome to the working week! Costello's debut is such a barnstormer, such an announcement to the music world that he was there and to come get him, that it's a shoo-in for my top 10. Whether it makes top 5 I'm not sure. Though I do have some sneaky feelings… #5DebutAlbumsFinal #musicsky #vinyl
My final ‘83 entrant for #5debutalbumsFINAL (I have 6 of the 8 finalists in #johnsvinyl). It won’t contend for my top 5 vote, but I still love playing this record! #nowplaying.
I've narrowed things down by about half for the #5DebutAlbumsFinal. Interestingly, 31 of the 46 come from the 1963-1983 sheet, when more people seemed to agree that I was right about the best music! 🤣 open.spotify.com/playlist/66M...

Still in my early 80s sweet spot for #5debutalbumsFINAL. But this is a band that I somehow completely missed in the day. Discovered them here, thanks to the polls #SirRichardShaw Better late than never, though. Great record and terrific band! #johnsvinyl #nowplaying
More of my 80s soundtrack. As great as it is, it won’t compete for my top 5 in #5debutalbumsFINAL. Mainly because it’s not my fave #REM (Reckoning). And then there’s the previous Chronic Town EP which I adore. #johnsvinyl #nowplaying
Yet another significant contender for my top 5 in #5debutalbumsFINAL. I have three copies in #johnsvinyl. Two OPs (different sleeves) and this remaster. It continues to draw me in after all these years. #nowplaying #TFF
Aaaaand yet another serious contender for #5debutalbumsFINAL. Still hits hard and beautiful at the same time. #johnsvinyl #nowplaying
Next up is another serious contender for my top 5 in #5debutalbumsFINAL. A big part of my 80s undergrad soundtrack. #johnsvinyl #nowplaying
