Some sensible soul has started a petition on banning the sale of disposable BBQs. Given the number of wildfires we've had in the UK and have seen over in Europe, this is an absolutely obvious thing to do.

My neighbours and I spent this Spring getting ourselves connected to the mains water. It took a few months, was massively disruptive, and cost a lot of money, but our private supply would have run dry for sure by now if we hadn't.

I saw the #BayeuxTapestry last year and the thing I did before I saw it that really enriched the experience for me was buying Tanya Bentham’s book on Bayeux Stitch and learning how to do the stitches. It gave me a link and appreciation of the work and the people (women) making it.

I started to learn (full circle) bell ringing about four months ago and today I rang more or less passably (I have a lot to learn) for a wedding at Grasmere. This is a turn of events that I would not have predicted on January 1st this year.

We will be developing this project into an exhibition for 2028 - documenting the impact of five decades of neoliberalism and the consequences for communities of deindustrialisation, deregulation, privatisation and the rise of wealth inequality. It won’t be pretty.

Today I had a long conversation with a former shipyard worker, near where these houses used to be, about the impact of deindustrialisation on the community in Wallsend and the bleak prospects for his grandchildren who have graduated but can’t find work.
