Bringing up some forgotten vinyl from the basement. This one is from my crate digging days, just grabbing stuff for samples. Side one sounds better than I remember, particularly the first two tracks. Side two is a little clunky, but xtra points for a cover of the theme from Silent Running. #jazzsky

Working late, waiting for the Phillies game, listening to music. This one’s very spiritual, good vocals, nice work from Doug on keys. Side 1 is much better than side 2, which isn’t as urgent. FWIW, when I hear a clock chime on the hour, I sing “Doug Carn, Jean Carn…Jean Carn, Doug Carn”

Revisiting some of the vinyl stashed in the basement. I raised an eyebrow when I saw this one, wondering why I hung onto it. Dropped the needle, heard Hank Jones playing Fender Rhodes, and the reason immediately became clear. #jazzsky

Me has new music? That’s unpossible! Or at least unprobable. This album by Momoko Gill was worth the effort of tracking down though. Lots of sonic and harmonic twists and turns. It’s checking all the musical boxes for me at the moment. #jazzsky #musicsky

I’ve been sick this week and this album has been hitting the spot. New reissue, purchased on the cheap (of course!). Very laid back for a MB album. Harold Budd’s “Bismillahi 'Rrahmani' Rrahim” is awesome, and even the Stevie Wonder cover is OK, but you can safely skip the last track. #jazzsky

Getting reacquainted with this is one. Given to me by my uncle who was all too eager to rid himself of it (it wasn’t his thing). I’m not sure if it’s my thing either. An orchestra of crack NYC musicians not given much to do. The out-there version of Gone, Gone, Gone is pretty good though #jazzsky

I have a dog that barks at the people she’s excited to see as well as the people she doesn’t like/is scared of. Basically, she barks at everyone. Except one guy in the neighborhood. Never barks at him when he walks by with his dog. He’s the only person in this world who she doesn’t bark at. WHY????

Picked this up a month ago but just listening to it now. Jacket has some wear but the vinyl looks UNPLAYED. Never got a proper rerelease from Columbia, probably because of side 1 but the quartet tracks on side 2 are as good as any other Brubeck of the period. #jazzsky

More new jazz?!! Well, this one is more jazz-y than straight up jazz (though it is surprisingly on the Concord label). The track Something New About You caught my ear but the rest of the album isn’t like that at all. Reminds me of the trance-like stuff DJ Shadow made in the 90s. Me likey. #jazzsky

Rachmaninov is playing at Patient First, and I only know that because I am familiar with Eric Carmen’s recorded output.

Another new-ish jazz album…what is happening to me?? Almost classical, but sometimes creepy and even funky on one tune. No heat but very calming throughout. The song “Damunt De Tu Només Les Flors” caught my attention but the rest of the album is just as compelling. #jazzsky

Picked this up for cheap with the flimsy die-cut gatefold intact. Anything on the Cadet label is going to at least sound good, and anything these talented individuals play is going to have nice little creative wrinkles, even on weaker material. Fool on the Hill is actually kinda out there. #jazzsky
