I suspect that the online gambling commercial aimed at millennials with Matthew Broderick that mentions the fall of Constantinople in 1453 is not exactly targeting the extremely online Orthobros, but it sure as hell feels like it. Weird. And may vice advertised be damned.

Last night I posted and deleted that Kevin M. Clarke will have published English translations of 3 major works of Maximus the Confessor in 2026. I was mistaken. He has 3 books on Maximus slated for 2026, but only 2 of them are works in translation. The other is an edited collection of essays.

Realizing I now own a total of FOUR English translations of _On Love_ by Maximus the Confessor is just the shot in the arm I needed for having two days off this weekend. Sherwood - ACW/Newman (1955), Palmer/Sherrard/Ware - Faber (1981), Berthold - CWS/Paulist (1985), Luis Joshua Sales - SVS (2026)

The Ascetic Life and Four Centuries on Charity by Maximus the Confessor translated by Polycarp SherwoodThe Philokalia Volume Two, which includes a host of works by Maximus, including Four Hundred Texts on Love, translated by Palmer, Sherrard, and Ware. Maximus the Confessor: selected writings, translated by George Berthold. New translation of Four Hundred Chapters on Love by Luis Joshua Sales.

So…the hyper-alienation of the worker. What is most insidious is that beyond separating humans from good creation and good cultivation, this newer form isolates us from our very selves as we upload identity to hyper-reality and forget who we are when the audience is not on.

Take it from me: these are the best index cards on the market. They come in graph, ruled, and blank, and in different colors. They are archival quality, as well. You can get them at remarkable prices from The Goulet Pen Co. Amazon’s prices are outrageous.

Pack of 100 green, grid-ruled Exacompta Bristol index cards (125×200 mm) in orange-and-white packaging.

There is much about automation to be regretted, but one thing that comes up rather frequently, is the automatic 'phenomenon' of my computer and accounts talking to me/us. My computer just wished me "Happy Birthday!" a day in advance. Oh well, let those things that do not exist perish utterly.
