I hadn't thought of Harding's Luck as an Odyssey, but I see your point! For me, the Swallows and Amazons books were very much my childhood equivalent. (My taste in children's lit was very British/European b/c my Dad was an expat, so Asterix & Ransome & Nesbit dominated.)
