This is quietly big news for @esa. General chat around #EPSC2026 is a strong desire to reduce dependence on perfidious NASA, driving Europe to new capabilities and partners (see expanding partnership with JAXA for BepiColombo and beyond)

Making a flying visit to #EPSC2026, Europe’s big planetary science meeting. Kicked off with excellent session on observations of interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, mostly from @esa’s JUICE. Very cool to use a probe en route to Jupiter for science on the way.
Any astrophotographers out there? I'm looking for images of people looking at the sky without telescopes. If you can share shots of meteor watching in deckchairs, or anything of you hanging out under the stars that would be fab. 🔭
Good start. Next up, realising that the penny pinching cuts are killing twenty more projects in astronomy, often for tiny amounts. The fix is simple…and cheap.

I've pretty much always gone in with my friends or family, and left with those same people. And it always sure seems like everyone else is doing the same thing too.
I realised something about this week’s total eclipse. It looked larger to me than other totalities: the corona more impressive, the diamond ring huge in the sky. And I’ve just clocked this wasn’t because of the circumstances but because of me (1/3) 🔭
My phone is full of people who enjoyed the partial and those wowed by totality making wild plans for next year. Umbraphillia for everyone! 🔭

Totality never disappoints. Amazing sunset eclipse, gorgeous corona with streamers, one bright prominence and excellent diamond rings. Still the best thing our planet does. 🔭
