After spending the day writing, grading essays, and recording lectures, I decided at the last minute to go dancing at @club.wenzdaysparty.com . SO MUCH FUN! Best of all--afterward, coming home from the club, my Lyft driver said that I looked kind of...dangerous! Really? Me!?!

Why so many blue Jolly Ranchers?? I bought a bag of assorted Jolly Ranchers and they are mostly blue. Yes there are other colors, but sooo many blue. Is that a thing that I was not aware of? Are they cheaper? Do people particularly like blue Jolly Ranchers? It is so weird!

Chopin's Nocturne in C# minor (the posthumous one). I was playing this piece years ago--and then I picked it up again, and suddenly I realized something that I'd never noticed before. It seriously feels like a revelation. I guess that's what great pieces do--they teach you over and over again. 🎵🎹💖

If I ever post something to the effect of, “I think I should get a Gaboon viper,” please reply to my post with, “No Ryka, you should not get a Gaboon viper.” Every once in a while, Peppermint goes on holiday from her enclosure and I am very happy that she is a ball python and not a Gaboon viper.

This Worldcon, I was up for no awards. I signed up for no panels, no table discussion--nothing. So other than helping to staff the @sfwa.bsky.social table, I was free to hang with friends, meet cool people, cheer my colleagues, and just take everything in. It was SO MUCH FUN!!!

I had a lot of fun at Worldcon! My goodness, there are so many fantastic writers out there!!! ✨😊✨ I mean…y’all know who you are, but seeing you gathered in one hotel bar in the midst of whatever brilliant conversations you were having was freaking amazing!!! 🤯

I would like to think that as I get older, I will speak more and more like a pirate. And because I have gotten older, it will not seem silly, but wise and full of gravitas.

I ordered Panda Express for the first time in a while. It used to be a guilty pleasure. Today it was kind of…wow…has the quality slipped? Did it get sold to a private equity firm or something?

One difference I've notice between comics writing and novel writing is with novels no one really cares about the exact page count. But comics writing is strict. Comics writing is like crafting a sonnet--being aware of symmetry, dividing into quatrains, hitting your beats. It's so cool!
