on narrative in rpg i really hope for an eventual escape from the urge to make your campaign into a grand coherent narrative with preplanned arcs and character beats
i'm not about to put lotr on a pedestal but it's really a shame how every successful modern work of fantasy that took its aesthetics and ran didn't understand that the work and world were extremely interested in myth and folklore and didn't exist purely for the core narrative
i think a lot of my thoughts on story lately wrt things like the "standard" trpg campaign, the timelineification of loz, trigun stampede being what it is kind of center around like......... the format and form and scope of the narrative? i don't quite have the vocab for it but
