Not objectively the best Carpenter movie but my personal favourite in terms of concept and atmospherics. Love the location (that town looks like it exists on the very edge of the world), the themes of small town isolation and historical guilt.

I'm very, very fond of Going Straight. The first episode's absolutely the equal of anything in Porridge and huge chunks of the rest of it work beautifully. Another series might have bedded it in but what we have is a sweet little series. Thanks to this, we call headphones "Raymonds" in our house.

The mad thing about that ‘bio hacker’ chap is that he looks like he gets fuck all sleep. He looks like he spends every weekend in some terrible archway hard house club in Vauxhall that finishes on Monday morning.

May's giant floating head is magnificent, but it's his adoption of a 'deadly serious' expression on the second "starfleet" of the chorus that makes this special. It is the look of a man who wants you to think very deeply on the potential ramifications of a *Star Fleet*.

Something that was *sheer * 1980’s was people deliberately/gravely hitting Mixamatosis rabbits with cars to ‘put them out of their misery’ - I swear this was ‘a thing’ - horrible business all round but, also, absolute Partridge.
I’m not sure whether lots of people hate it but I know very few love it. So: my favourite John Coltrane record. Om half an hour of utter insanity. I love the intensity. It’s an actual trip- it really *does* feel like being ‘boosted’ somewhere (space) at immense speed. And then it just stops
