Looking for Mr. Goodbar is an odd film. It's strangely edited and jumps all over the place. The opening credits seem to last forever. It's full of toxic men. But Diane Keaton is wonderful throughout. Also, early screen performances for Richard Gere, Tom Berenger, LeVar Burton and Brian Dennehy.

I've just picked up a Too Good to Go bag from the bakery on the corner. I paid £7.95.
You can't spend more than five minutes in Copenhagen without noticing the sheer volume of cyclists. There are bikes everywhere. They are legion. I have never seen so many on the roads, although, to be fair, I've never visited Amsterdam. But I am often in Oxford and used to live in Cambridge.
And it appears to be an extra special Scandi music day today because my absolute all-time fave, Annika Norlin, has collaborated with de clair on this new track.

I've watched both versions of True Grit over the last two days and, on reflection, I think I liked the original the most. I would argue that it is 'performed' more than acted, but overall is a more entertaining watch and certainly has more fun with the supporting cast.

I have placed my votes for the greatest Australian novels of all time. I'm pretty biased because I published a bunch of these in the UK, but I still think it's a great list.
There's a new film showing next week at the cinema a 5-minute walk from my Copenhagen apartment, and it has the dream Danish actor lineup. Do I go, even though both the Q&A and the film will be in a language I don't understand? I am tempted.
I thought I had Angel Face sussed within the first 5 minutes, and I sort of did, but about two-thirds of the way through, it goes in a direction I was not expecting and has a genuinely great ending. Currently on iPlayer.

I enjoyed Cat Call, an absolutely bonkers Polish movie about an architect who falls in love with her neighbour's talking cat and helps fund his career in gangsta rap. Yep, you read that right. You probably have to be in the right sort of mood for it, but well worth a watch.

I watched Written on the Wind this afternoon, my first Douglas Kirk. It looked great, but I find it hard to engage with this sort of melodrama. The situations are interesting, but the characters lack a certain depth. I can absolutely see how it went on to influence 70s and 80s soap operas, though.

I like to think I'm a fairly adventurous eater, but decided not to dine here. My loss, perhaps.
In 'Love in the Afternoon', Bernard Verley spends 90 minutes not quite having an affair with Zouzou. This US re-release trailer completely fails to capture the tone. Excellent work. Not my favourite Éric Rohmer film, but still has a certain charm.
