GOOD NEWS. My novel--a retelling of Hansel & Gretel in which the parents are addicted to opioids--originally titled Abandon & now titled A THOUSAND WAYS TO DISAPPEAR, will be published by Cornerstone Press (Univ. of Wisconsin) in February 2028.

ICE has now carried out two summary executions of innocent people in the streets of an American city. If you work for ICE, there's no denying that's the mission you're supporting now. You don't get to claim in one year or ten or twenty that you didn't know what ICE was doing. You're complicit.

I’m excited to have a micro-excerpt from my novel-in-progress in this issue. Thrilled to be in such great company! Finding an under 200-word, freestanding section to extract and submit was a difficult —but rewarding—challenge. Big thank you to eds. @owenwyke.bsky.social and @amygcb.bsky.social !

Fuzzy snowy wood in evening.

Support Democrats who promise accountability and prosecutions against this lawless Trump regime, and who champion "Abolish ICE" and refuse to throw immigrants under the bus. It's the lowest bar on Earth.

"He explained that the fountain was about transformation. Water is motion. Life is motion. The flap of the wing, the angel, the bird. The carrying of each from one world to the next." Oh my... this gorgeous and funny story about angels and hauntings by @bybethhahn.bsky.social is a must-read. ❤️⛲⚰️〰️🤯

If I have any credibility with you from 20 years of reporting on rightwing & fascist movements, please listen when I beg you not to celebrate Charlie Kirk getting shot. Leave aside morality: this isn’t a match in dry grass, it’s a torch. We do not want what this could ignite & we would not win.

A big thanks to all our “roulette” submitters! We’re now closed. For future calls, pls follow us here or join our mailing list by sending us an email at mailinglist@ettereview.com

Note: COVID hasn’t changed that much recently, so while they will be updating the vaccine in fall to match the latest variants, the current “old” vaccine should still provide good protection (and better than no vaccine if access is restricted).
