Day 31 -- Carnival "I love him, thank you... not entirely convinced he was worth injuring yourself over, though." "Naw, throwin' arm's just a lil rusty. Couple dozen baseball pitches are great for loosenin' up."

Day 29 -- Firelight Nobody knew where the mimics came from and they were rare enough to be considered only ghost stories, but it was common knowledge that if encountered, the dog-like pretenders must be burned, and the pyres watched to ensure they don't try to crawl out again.

Day 28 -- Disguise Preparing orphaned wildlife to return to their natural habitat required a bit of subterfuge to prevent them from imprinting on people.

Bild

Day 27 -- Horseman The heralding in of harvest time with a race had been tradition in the northern reaches of Galeswept for millennia, and remained as a practice to this day mostly to give the youths something to do that didn't involve vandalism.

Bild

Day 26 -- Full Moon Certain spells can only be drafted under the light of the full moon. It's a really bad time to get writer's block.

Bild

Day 24 -- Mythological "Squirrel looked at you funny again?" "NO. ...It was a cat." Like most fae, unicorns struggle with impulse control. They also don't have great binocular vision.

Bild

Day 23 -- Many-eyed "Ooh, it's one of them barb-y thorns. Gonna need to break out my magnifying goggles for this." "Oh, the... magnifying ones...? It's, um--y'know what, I'm fine actually--" "It's no trouble! Now stop fidgeting, I'll never understand why you're so squeamish about these tweezers."

Bild

Day 22 -- Folk Art Highly pigmented juice of fragile mulberries inevitably leaves stains on everything. Rather than fight this irregular dyeing process, dedicated foragers opt to embrace it by wearing light colored fabrics that display their chaotic and unique stains with pride.

Bild

Day 21 -- Sorcerer "See? Magic." "Whh--that's not magic, that's cheating. Also, where were you hiding that bird and how long was it in there." "Bah, everyone's a critic."

Bild

Day 18 -- Dark Water Hussars with an affinity for water often employed domesticated beasts to help them navigate the murky riverways of the deep woods, and though there were flashier options, many insisted that no better-mannered companion existed for the job than a whiskerhead carp.

Bild

Day 17 -- Roots In the somewhat treacherous footing of the forest floor toward the center of the deep woods, the trees themselves at times provided useful roadways.

Bild

Day 16 -- Scythe Stealing from giants so close to harvest time is such a monumentally stupid thing to do, it may as well be a mandatory initiation ritual.

Bild

Day 15 -- Gourd The improbable yawning gourd, useless to all except the birds of the Fallows, was so ubiquitous every autumn despite its lack of seed-bearing fruit that it was theorized to be itself a seasonal fae.

Bild

Day 14 -- Cobweb Experienced travelers in the deep woods know to follow two rules when navigating the domains of direwolf spiders: never disturb the cobwebs, and always remember to look up.

Bild

Day 13 -- The Butcher "Well... guess the chickens are safe... if anyone asks, it was already half-eaten when we found it, okay?"

Day 12 -- Goblin Though unlikely to attack on their own, the goblins of Stag's Run remained a threat to travelers in the woods due to their tendency to swarm.

Bild

Day 11 -- Tarnished Though an otherwise easily-overlooked monument, the commemorative bronze visage of Corky, the first carrier bat to cross the Alabaster Gulf, was known by local university students to bring good luck if you gave its nose a pat.

Bild

Day 10 -- Acorn Though technically edible, acorns from giant oaks required extensive processing to leach out their bitter and toxic compounds. Instead, they were gathered for the weevil larvae commonly found inside, referred to by locals and no one else as "deep woods lobster."

Bild

Day 9 -- Sinister Brew I mean sure drinking out of the Slime Well grants you extraplanar wisdom beyond all mortal comprehension, but like... at what cost??

Bild

Day 8 -- Doll Though rubber teething toys remain popular distractions for puppies, the unfortunate implications of those shaped like prey animals has made certain subject matters a thing of the past (unless your grandparents never threw anything away).
