I'm a British winemaker living in Logroño, La Rioja, Spain. I like the outdoors.
Always keen to try some #RibeiraSacra For me this was one of the best on the stand at #Verema Bilbao
2024 #Reserva coming ot of #barrel after 22 months. The last chance to check on any #newoak, to see what it brought, before it gets blended in to the mix. #Winemaking #BodegasObalo #Rioja
Fun times #Verema #Bilbao Lots of great #wine to try. Get on down there, if you find yourself in the city. www.verema.com/eventos/expe...
Looking forward to this #winetasting on Monday in #Bilbao. Thanks #Verema www.verema.com/eventos/expe...

Checking in on our new #VillageWine project. The #wines don't always taste all that good at this stage, so a bit of patience and careful monitoring is required. Saying that I'm very optimistic for these 2026, will probably be our best year in my time here. #BodegasObalo #Rioja
Starting the night in the mean back streets of South Central. #VinosMurillo #BarElTirador #LaFrasca #BarrioBar #Logroño #Spain
Always nice to have visitors at #BodegasObalo #Rioja Great visit today with a large group from the Netherlands.
Astonishing new insight. Apparently those who treat fine #wine as an investment are starting to look further afield than Bordeaux, including to Burgundy, Champagne, the Rhône and Italy. www.vinetur.com/202610051082...
Sherry Week is coming up! With hundreds of sherry events being held worldwide 🥂 Here is mine in Sevilla… #winesky www.sherry.wine/sherryweek/e...
Astonishing stats highlighting #climatechange in #Logroño this summer. Looking at daily max temps, averaged over the month, four monthly records were broken in 2026. With April 4ºC warmer, June 5ºC warmer, July 5ºC warmer and September 5.5ºC warmer than then 1990-2020 average.
Really enjoyed this #sparkling #wine from the unusual #XarelloVermell grape. Lots going, just 10% alcohol and an extremely cool bottle. Great job by #Llopart.
#Winemaking hierarchy: Our 2 temporary workers doing the actual work. 2 permanent workers organising and supervising. Winemaker filming and playing with instagram. Fairly relaxed feel at #BodegasObalo #Rioja, as the real end of the harvest nears and a weekend off looms.
Having stressed all Georgian wine isn't orange a couple of weeks ago here's an example of how absolutely delicious it is when it is www.matchingfoodandwine.com/news/match_o... #matchoftheweek
Turkish mangal and orange wine
Orange wines are an amazingly versatile match with food as this pairing with quail cooked on a Turkish mangal grill at Kid in Soho shows

Weird to try a #wine from #Mercadona that's quite good. Fairly zippy, with nice lemon and pineapple fruit, though slighty phenolic finish. Amazing value at 3.60€. Unsurprisingly good job by #ViñasDelVero, the fact that they need to do this probably reflects the state of the market.
The party continues in #Logroño. Not sure it ever really stopped, to be honest.
Totally agree. I don't know if it's the winemaker in me or not, but I often enjoy youngish straightforward wines, over complex masterpieces, even before you take into account the price.
Been to 4 wine tastings in 3 days after a long break from trade events. Feeling deeply conflicted about what critics say is good vs what I enjoy. - Technically impressive but hard-work £150 wine. - Really enjoyed £10 wine, even if much more basic. I always say a good wine is what you like.
