Visible satellite imagery this morning shows a well defined marine layer has migrated inland across some of the western interior valleys. The front that moved through the region is now well off to the east.

Here is a look at forecast peak wind gusts over the next 24 hours. The strongest winds will be focused across the Shasta Valley and east of the Cascades. This combined with low humidity levels will result in the potential for fire growth.

The Storm Prediction Center at NOAA has narrowed down where thunderstorms are most likely to develop later this afternoon and evening. Most of the activity will be confined along the Cascade crest including northern Klamath and Lake counties.

Clouds have increased in coverage overnight as a front moves inland and across the region. This during will bring upper level moisture and some instability aloft. This could be enough to generate isolated thunderstorms later in the day. Winds will also increase across the region.

It is a what could be called a hot day across the region. Thankfully this should be the last 100 degree day we see for at least the next 7 days. High temperatures begin to drop off a few degrees tomorrow and even more heading into the weekend. They climb back again early next week.

It was a beautiful morning of fishing at Lake of the Woods. I needed a day off from work, and to enjoy some special time with our youngest son. So hard to believe he will be a senior in High School this year. Have to enjoy as much time as I can, because they grow up way too fast.

The clouds have receded back offshore with only a few clouds streaming over the region. We can also see a few areas of smoke mostly across Humboldt, Klamath and eastern Clackamas counties. Well above normal temperatures continue into tomorrow.

Here are the latest 7 day precipitation estimates from the European weather model run this morning. Any precipitation we might see develop will be focused along the immediate coast and across the Cascades. Trace amounts are possible in some of the valleys.

Fire weather concerns will be elevated on Friday and into Saturday as a cold front approaches the region. Gusty afternoon and evening winds combined with low relative humidity levels could result in fire growth and spread. Highest impacts are Shasta Valley and east of Cascades.
