NO TO MASS SURVAILLANCE NO TO CHAT CONTROL #stopkillingtheinternet 17 year old Tech nerd from Mannheim, Germany

I'm tired of being on the fucking backfoot about trying to stop invasive age verification bills or censorship or whatever fucking else keeps threatening the places that matter to me. I'm so sick of seeing people who don't care, or worse fucking *endorse* it We need actual campaigns and more calls

In case you missed it: #Ofcom are proposing to ban open access to content by Joy Division, Pink Floyd The Wall, Nine Inch Nails, and anything pertaining to goth subculture; also #dysphoria forums and anything discussing body "wrongness" Because children should not have access to that kind of thing.

Alec Muffett@alecmuffett.bsky.social · yesterday

God alone knows how #Ofcom and their functionaries will interpret "promotion of body stigma" as applied to open discussion of gender #dysphoria

Btw since the next chatcontrol negotiation will be on November & the EU KidsAct hasn't officially launched yet in Europe I will give you some keywords that you can use just in case you want to mail/call MEP's or other reps (the main targets are mostly the EU-Commission aswell as VDL since both -

We believe one of the best ways to accomplish this, is by starting to get as many people as possible, switching over to #Linux. There are constantly new apps being made for the various distros, many of them open source. Starting the switch over to Linux isn't hard, there's plenty of help to do it.

Ever have a day where you just feel like nobody gives a shit about stopping the internet from being censored/gated further? Or rather, that everyone is too busy dooming when they could be working together to push for change?

We were promised REPEATEDLY that age-verification law was narrow, and would ONLY apply to porn. But— as we warned —it was always a ruse. Since conservatives got their ruling in FSC v Paxton, they’ve pushed to age-gate anything and everything. It’s not going to stop with social media or chatbots.

11th Cir. holds that Florida's ban on anyone under age 14 and anyone under 16 without parental consent from creating a social media account likely does not violate the First Amendment. Judge Newsome writes a concurring op. agreeing with his maj. op. media.ca11.uscourts.gov/opinions/pub...

First, HB3 is age delimited. It prohibits minors under 14 from creating accounts, id. § 501.1736(2)(a), and it requires 14- and 15-year-olds to obtain parental consent before doing so, id. § 501.1736(3)(a). Notably, it imposes no limitations for those 16 years of age and older. The law thus applies only to younger minors and recognizes the fine-grained distinctions even among those to whom it applies—namely, that 13-year-olds (in general, middleschoolers) are different from 14- and 15-year-olds (those starting high school), who, in turn, are different from those 16 and up (budding adults). Second, even among those to whom HB3 does apply, the law restricts only their ability to create their own accounts, not their ability to access social-media platforms per se. The creation of a social-media account is a commercial act—a business transaction. Even a minor—indeed, even a young child—may continue to use the platforms provided he either (1) uses his parents’ (or someone else’s) account or (2) gains access without an account.

Protecting kids shouldn't mean collecting their faces. When a child tries a face-based age check, that photo goes to the site. Add a parent's ID and it's a database of children's pictures with home addresses. Full conversation in the thread 👇

India was hailed as the next big democratic player: It is such a dissappointment to see Dehli turn on its youth, its future in this way. Demonstration is a fundamental democratic principle, and seeing a government so publicly fighting it is reason for its removal.

ABSTRACT
In September 2026, the European Commission published a proposed EU KIDS Act, responding to the
demand for restrictions and further design obligations applying to digital services accessible to children,
including social media. This Article argues that regardless of what one believes about the merits of this
policy direction, the EU KIDS Act is not the legislative text we need. The scope and drafting are little
short of chaotic, full of holes, enormous ambiguities, and unintended consequences. Recitals contradict
articles. The use of scope borrowed from other pieces of legislation not designed for this purpose brings
services into scope that should not be subject to the relevant provisions, like book-recommendation
websites, music services, or exercise trackers. The infrastructural requirement for assurance of age and
parental responsibility attestation simply omits enormous issues of complex families and childhoods.
Complex design obligations are written in ways that can be plausibly interpreted as implicitly prohibiting
entire swathes of products, such as voice assistants. This Article outlines these issues, and many more.
The Commission should withdraw this proposal and reissue a workable and realistic tex

The proposed social media ban, the EU KIDS Act, is perhaps the most chaotic law I have ever read! New paper: Are EU Kidding Me? Notes from a Poorly Drafted Social Media Ban. files.michae.lv/papers/veale_areEUkiddingme.pdf In the spirit of the proposal I have stayed offline and read no takes.
