I’ve been screening our documentary with organizing communities in the South. So far, the organizers mention data centers first at every single event. From racial justice orgs to old school activists who don’t usually think about tech policy. This has legs.

A quick word on Taco Bell: That's where we found the suspected lettuce, and it's not bc Taco Bell is gross. It's bc Taco Bell is REALLY GOOD at tracing product! Keeping track of exactly where they got their ingredients, & exactly what restaurants each shipment of ingredients went to!

1/ Explosive diarrhea cases from a microscopic parasite (cyclospora) are climbing fast. This is now the largest cyclosporiasis outbreak in U.S. history, passing 4,000 cases and still rising. For context: the U.S. normally sees about 3,000-4,000 cases in a WHOLE year.

5/All that said, why is this happening? Public health cuts are certainly at play, but not the ones in the headlines. A lot of blame is landing on last year’s cuts to FoodNet, but FoodNet was never designed for real-time outbreak detection or response. Instead, it tracks longer-term background trends
