This man is a fucking monster who limped away from Chicago's mayor's office because he'd become unelectable after closing 50 schools and half of our city's publicly funded mental health care clinics, and covering up the fact that Chicago cops murdered a teenager. Stop whitewashing his ass!

Rahm Emanuel: ‘You Don’t Like My Ideas? Show Me Yours’ The always pugnacious Democrat is ready to fight Republicans, the DSA, and Bibi Netanyahu. And maybe run for president.

The Le Guin book is Revolution in the Heart, which I have a story in! And everything I've read in it so far has been fabulous, and the cover is really really nice. My story may make you want to eat terrible pizza, which is not an aspect related to Le Guin in any way to my knowledge.

New Anthropic wrinkle for cowriters: they were very confused by me & Donna both being authors but also being out own publishers so they decided to give us each 25% of our money and the other 50% to ??? This was only visible after we expanded the allocations! The main text said we had no disputes!

Pioneering feminist icon Gloria Steinem has died at the age of 92. According to her Instagram page, she "passed away peacefully at her home in New York City, surrounded by some of the many who loved her." She was a tireless advocate for the social, economic and political advancement of women.

Amazing moment. Coinbase's CEO says he doesn't believe in charity because " If you look at like the Ford Foundation, I think Henry Ford would be like turning over in his grave."

1/ Just in: An anonymous federal worker has filed a whistleblower disclosure warning that the U.S. Postal Service's attempt to create a system to regulate mail voting for the midterms has been "rushed, chaotic, and fundamentally flawed." @propublica.org has the details 👇

Screenshot of the top of a whistleblower disclosure titled "USPS Rushed Implementation of New and Untested IT Systems Threatens U.S. Ballot Mail Delivery." Addressed to Senator Blumenthal, the first point details how the whistleblower has "significant concerns about the USPS's secretive, rushed, chaotic, and fundamentally flawed process for the creation and implementation of an entirely new and untested set of IT systems" intended for the 2026 midterms.

I mean, I'm not the biggest fan of everything being charities either. ...I'd prefer a top tax rate of 90% once you hit a $500M net worth, and a govt which assures all its citizens universal healthcare, access to shelter, UBI, free public higher ed, clean water, etc.

It's not until he says the magic words, that he fears losing control, that it fully clicks. It's not that he believes philanthropy is bad, it's that the risk of someone receiving his money who he doesn't approve of is a bigger problem than the risk that his money helps no one. That speaks volumes.

I'm getting ads for an "all-in-one vinyl workstation" that promises to play all golden era formats, including CD and cassette. My first thought was that in my day we called this a stereo, but then I thought it might just be Bluetooth. went back to look to see if it had stereo output but lost the ad.

Somehow, not the Onion. “The FBI previously refused to hire job applicants if they admitted to hiring sex workers or stealing from an employer — or engaging in acts of bestiality. Today, those acts, which are mostly illegal across the country, are no longer automatic deal breakers for applicants”

At the FBI, a history of hiring prostitutes or stealing from employer may no longer be a barrier to being hired

In June, the FBI quietly lowered some of the standards it uses when it conducts background checks on would-be federal agents and other personnel.
