Congratulations Dodgers. To put it in perspective, the last time you didn't make the playoffs we were still a full democracy with a functioning legislative branch. www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/...

It's a staggering example of the corrupting power of authoritarianism that this institution, which the President had no legal authority over, falls victim to his narcissism. Can Trump slap his name on the Statue of Liberty? His face on Mount Rushmore? Can he demolish them if we say no?

I'm always cautious because Texas is like the run-away bride for Democrats, but Michael is right that if this is true, it is really a big deal.
At this level (if accurate) Texas Republicans could lose control of the state House. Texas is near the bottom in turnout rates due to many state policies. A Texas flip indeed could be a seismic change in who votes and representation
I don't know how AI should fit into higher education - none of us quite do exactly. But this is definitely worth reading and considering as we are trying to figure it out.

Rising oil prices and Treasury yields are lifting energy and borrowing costs for U.S. households, pushing consumers to draw more heavily on savings.

This speaks to an odd duality of faux-populism where the political right whips the left for imagined "faculty-lounge" politics, but then, given the keys to the newsroom, they replace it with something much closer to the imagined faculty-lounge politics, and it is hugely unpopular.

Finneas and other acts exit Ed Sheeran tour in protest of Macklemore being dropped over pro-Palestinian remarks
All of Sheeran’s listed openers have left the tour after New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft worked to have Macklemore removed.

Sheeran is a millionaire and doesn't need Kraft's money. He should have told him to pound sand and then performed a free concert in Boston Common (and also sued him for breach of contract).
We have always understood that the Court is guided by ideology, but imagined that there were limits to that or, at least, the guiding ideology wasn't so extreme. But Thomas and Alito seem to have embraced an ideology of right-wing authoritarianism and their opinions will be in service to it.
"The last time we had a guy protesting, he had the curtesy to carry a Mexican flag, so that we knew where he stood," says Vance as the protestor is forcibly removed. Think about that.
a protester interrupts JD Vance's speech in Kansas. Can anybody tell what he was yelling? I can't quite make it out (sounds like it was something about Roger Marshall)

By the way, here are the lyrics to the song Macklemore was performing that caused him to be dropped from the tour.

This is such a sad casualty of the politicization of science. Project implicit has been a tremendous source of scientific knowledge with remarkable multiplicative effects. And it was killed because the vibes felt too close to DEI when everybody decided they had to run away from that.
I am sad to share that Project Implicit, my first non-profit and foundation of my career, is closing. The IAT website will continue, managed by the next generation of leaders in implicit bias research. Here's the statement I posted to LinkedIn. It didn't vibe right as a bsky thread.
Your regular reminder - despite our neverending National Conversation™️ - that there are <exactly zero> societal institutions that are <more protective> of free speech & viewpoint diversity & the marketplace of ideas than colleges & universities.
Yikes, if this is accurate, its basically the owner class using their power to shut down dissent. The Patriots Robert Kraft told Sheerhan his concert would be cancelled if Mackelmore stayed on the your, and that other stadium owners would follow suit.

Think about the argument - made deliberately - that the President will not do his job unless we laud him like a king.
WaPo reports Kennedy Center may close by Tuesday and faces bankruptcy if Trump's name is not added to the center. "Trump is unlikely to provide “fundamental oversight” of that project or lead a financial rescue without “appropriate recognition” of his role." GIFT LINK: wapo.st/4cLnDHP
What does he mean by this statement? That we should shun people who provide legal counsel to people accused of heinous crimes? That studying the sociopolitical fallout of 9/11 is somehow an affront to the values of a university? A shameful statement. www.insidehighered.com/news/quick-t...

After 9/11, I so feared what it would mean for our politics. And here we are, 25 years later, with the President of the United States asking people to raise their hand and pledge allegiance to him and playing a video saying he was created by God to save us from domestic enemies.
