🧵 1/6 At the 3/31 CCLS board meeting, Diane Jarrett, a retired journalist, addressed the board directly. She asked whether Library Director Keisha Evans had been given political cover to deviate from the library’s own collection development policy. #ftrccc #LibraryFreedom #FirstAmendment #GaPol
1/9 At the 3/31 Library Board meeting, Director Keisha Evans presented a new rationale for the Middle Ground section that did not appear in her February 24 decision letter — the letter that triggered the appeal. This is not a minor procedural detail. 🧵
Two Columbia County library book placement appeals will be decided March 31. The board can hear from the public before voting. 📧 Email the library board here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... Context in the thread ⬇️

FTRCCC joins the ACLU of GA in opposition to SB 74. Contact Speaker Burns and tell him you oppose SB 74! #ftrccc #UniteAgainstBookBans #FirstAmendment #censorship #SB74
ACLUGA remains opposed to SB 74 because it’s vague about compliance and threatens librarians’ constitutional right of free speech. Contact Speaker of the House Jon Burns and tell him that you oppose any laws that threaten school employees with criminal charges. https://bit.ly/4trCv4Y
GA SB 74 criminalizes librarians. GA House Judicial Non-civil Committee is hearing it Tuesday 2/3 at 3 PM. We’re calling on legislators to oppose this bill, and on Georgians to speak up now. 📌 Full details and how to take action in the comments.

Emails show the 32 book challenges at Board of Ed weren’t the first, more were filed in May. 📚 Board member Katie Allen has always pushed book bans: speaking at a rally, pressing Supt. Flynt, and pushing policy so any resident can censor books. Kids deserve freedom to read! #FreedomToRead #FTRCCC

This is a list of books that have been banned since 2022. The pink highlighted titles have LGBTQ+ content. An easy way to help fight, is to check the books out! If it is unavailable at a CC Library, ask for staff to put an “item hold” on the title so our book gets the circulation number. #FTRCCC

I’ve never hidden my role with CC Dems - it’s public and in the FTRCCC website. Claims that were pushing a radical agenda are false. FTRCCC is non-partisan, opposes censorship from any side, and supports parents guiding their own kids’ reading ~ Karin Parham
Despite the rain, it was a great turnout yesterday.

I didn’t include this email in the original Substack article that I wrote. However this shows the level of inquiry. I have another Open Records Request with the Board of Regents that I will hopefully get back either today or tomorrow.
