The American insurance system is not set up to handle multiple (unnecessary!) visits for vaccines that are now given at the same time. The schedules of American pediatricians and public health clinics are not set up to handle this. The schedules of American parents are not set up to handle this.

Trump: "Effective immediately, my administration is recognizing gold standard childhood vaccine recommendations for only 11 core vaccinations against the most serious and dangerous diseases along with the MMR, which hopefully will be split up."

Excellent, but upsetting, piece on how the huge loss of staff under Bhattacharya led to losses in: knowledge & institutional memory; new perspectives, emerging scientific expertise, & future leaders; trust & transparency; ability to carry out NIH’s most basic functions; & community partnerships

NIH has lost more than 20% of its staff. NIH has lost 1 in every 5 workers. This undermines the NIH mission. @27unihted.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/27unihte...

It is time to come clean. I went to a university where there were a couple of profs who indulged their creative sides by writing musicals. One of them was a musical theatre retelling of the Odyssey. I played Penelope.

Last week, while marooned on the ATL west-side perimeter next to an impenetrable wall of semis barreling at 75+mph, I heard myself say 2 things. 1: "I understand why people think they need ever-bigger SUVs." 2" "But eventually everyone will be driving tanks." And, well, here we are.

Not only should this be illegal but if you have ever put down a deposit a vehicle like this you should lose your drivers license, right to vote, and right to bear arms, and be ineligible to take out bank loans or credit cards.

Yesterday, WIRED learned that Madison Square Garden was suing us for our accurate reporting. We stand by our work. That’s why we’re removing the paywall from two of the MSG stories they don’t want you to read, making them free for everyone.

California has excellent disease detection bc: 1) the state government believes in public health and funds it AND 2) it's the home of Kaiser Permanente, a private health system with excellent patient care AND unified records that can be plumbed for data. socialized medicine and public health x2!
