As someone with asthma living in one of these affected areas, I am begging you to wear a mask if you'll be outdoors for any length of time.

Protect Yourself from Wildfire Smoke, a guide from the CDC. Staying inside away from smoke is best. If you just go outside, wear a snug respirator or mask to help filter smoke.

A chart below lists five different types of masks for use, with N95 or P100 respirators and K95 respirators rated as the most effective, surgical masks listed as moderately effective, and cloth masks and scarves listed as not very effective.

Respirators should not be used for children under 2.
