Tuberous Thistle (Cirsium tuberosum) at Nash point Lighthouse grasslands this morning. A rare plant in Britain and a first for me. #bythesea #wildflowerhour

The home of #WildflowerHour: 8-9pm every Sunday. Wild Flowers you find across Britain & Ireland in the last week. The biggest cheerleader for our wild plants! Posts by @botanybeck.bsky.social https://wildflowerhouruk.weebly.com/
Thank you all for sharing your lovely photos, it’s wonderful to see your #wildflowerhour finds despite the prolonged drought! Will they still be in flower next week? Let’s meet again next Sunday to find out and let’s hope it rains soon!!!!
Still quite a lot in flower #ByTheSea this week on Chesil Beach in Dorset. See ALT text. #WildflowerHour @wildflowerhour.bsky.social
My favourite flower #ByTheSea this week has got to be the beautifully delicate Common Sea-lavender growing on Chesil Beach. Erect stems sprinkled with gorgeous purple flowers, interspersed with little white cups that tell of past blooms. A lovely flower in a lovely location. 💜 #wildflowerhour
More #ByTheSea for @wildflowerhour.bsky.social ID a bit of a challenge for a couple 🤔 but the sun and salt brought out the pink all round - Rosa rugosa, Bloody Crane’s-bill, Yarrow, C Mallow, Restharrow ?, Dove’s-foot Crane’s-bill ? 🩷🌸🌊 #WildFlowerHour #EastLothian
Vaccinium vitis-idaea, Cowberry or Longonberry for #WildflowerHour. It's name translates as vine of mount ida.
Crimdon, Co Durham #WildflowerHour #ByTheSea Fennel showing a bright pop of yellow and smelling gorgeous in the heat of the sun.
Pretty things from Strandhill dunes #ByTheSea: sunshiny Perennial Sowthistle (Sonchus arvensis) & misty blue Harebell (Campanula rotundifolia); Bird's-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) seedheads & my favourite miniature grass Sand Cat's-tail (Phleum arenarium) @bsbibotany.bsky.social #wildflowerhour
A few non-maritime species that often like to live #ByTheSea were still flowering earlier this week at Snettisham - Viper's-bugloss, Common Restharrow, Hoary Mullein and Fennel. @bsbibotany.bsky.social #wildflowerhour
Cut-leaved Teasels, Dipsacus laciniatus, growing beside Marriott's Way at Costessey, Norfolk. Photographed on yesterday's bike ride with @vannabartlett.bsky.social. Do you know about these @jo-the-botanist.bsky.social? #WildFlowerHour
Sea Holly at Salterns, Hill Head. #WildflowerHour How many visitors to this seafront really appreciate the rich biodiversity? Salterns is a SINC for coastal vegetated shingle, and most of Hill Head and the sea itself is internationally important for birds including those migrating now like Terns.
For tonight’s #WildflowerHour, here’s a picture not of a flower in bloom, but of a meadow in the making. @louisacasson.bsky.social & I today gathered green hay and wildflower seed - knapweed, yellow rattle - from Kevin & Donna Cox’s amazing meadows, and spread it on our own somewhat smaller lawn. 🤞🌼
Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) is a very special plant for me. Being from the Northwest I've only seen them once before and working in sites full of them this week was magic! Also a surprise Lesser Emperor! Working in Ecology is incredible #wildflowerhour @bsbibotany.bsky.social
Another classic #ByTheSea plant, although it tends to be a bit inland of the really salty bit. Viper's Bugloss for #WildflowerHour. Snettisham beach, Norfolk, yesterday.
Happily in #Peel on #IsleofMan for #ByTheSea challenge, near #Castle A few flowers left on Tree Mallow with detail needing macro tomorrow & irresistible seed-heads #Stunday #ECK #IOM #WildFlowerHour @bsbiireland.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social @wildflowerhour.bsky.social
No opportunities for me to be #ByTheSea this week, but here are wild marjoram and wild basil - I especially love the latter’s hairy flower heads #WildFlowerHour
Thwarted by my attempt today to get #ByTheSea (or at least the Thames estuary) by train failure, here’s something inland for #wildflowerhour Field Scabious (Knautia arvensis) amongst the grass at Walthamstow Marshes
Sea Aster on the Galway coast with Sea Mayweed and a White Tailed Bumblebee #WildflowerHour #ByTheSea
Sand dune architect, #Marram Grass #Ammophila arenaria - woven to produce mats, fishing nets, ropes & shoes - part of our natural #heritage #Anglesey #YnysMôn #Cymru #Wales #ByTheSea @wildflowerhour.bsky.social
#WildflowerHour #ByTheSea Another few flowering plants at Cley, in North Norfolk: idents in ALT text. I parked at the Beach CP and walked westwards towards Blakeney Point. A lot there to see :)
Limonium vulgare - Common Sea-Lavender and Spergularia media - Greater Sea-Spurrey, still flowering #ByTheSea at Avon WT Walborough nature reserve near Weston-super-Mare. #WildflowerHour
This was what I went to Snettisham for yesterday - Carline Thistle on top of the embankment at the top of the beach. A bit past its best and not taken from very close because it was inside the bird-nesting area and I had to stay outside, but still a really berserk flower. #WildflowerHour #ByTheSea
Mostly finished but still some amazing Yellow Horned-poppy (Glaucium flavum) in flower #ByTheSea for #WildflowerHour @wildflowerhour.bsky.social
Happily in #Peel on #IsleofMan for #ByTheSea challenge, near #Castle Wild Thyme and Sea Pink (Thrift) flowering on lower slopes of Peel #Hill very close to the sea #Stunday #ECK #IOM #WildFlowerHour @bsbiireland.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social @wildflowerhour.bsky.social
