Why do we stand up for the Aquatic Warbler? 🪶 The Aquatic Warbler is Europe’s rarest songbird and protecting its future requires dedication and teamwork. But what motivates the people behind the conservation work? We asked our colleagues why they are committed to this bird and its habitats.

Habitat restoration and management are essential, but they are no longer enough on their own. Many remaining Aquatic Warbler populations have become too small and isolated to survive independently 🪶 👉 This is where translocation comes in. Today, we take a closer look at how translocation works ⬇️

1/3 Why does the Aquatic Warbler need a helping hand? 🪶 With around 4,000–5,000 breeding birds left, it's Europe’s rarest songbird. The species is at serious risk of extinction due to habitat loss (e.g. through drainage and vegetation overgrowth) and the fragmentation of its remaining populations.

Last week, at the #EuropeanGreenBelt conference in Italy, 80 organisations from over 20 countries presented the outcomes of 49 projects that promote #biodiversity, empower local communities, and encourage sustainable economic management along the European Green Belt. #conservation More info ⬇️

49 Signs of Hope along the European Green Belt

Last week, a BESTbelt conference attended by all project partners took place in Gorizia, Italy. EuroNatur played an important role in this.

In 2024, the EU made history by adopting the Nature Restoration Regulation, committing to restore degraded ecosystems – forests, rivers, seas, farmland and even cities – by 2050. EU Member States must submit their national restoration plans by 1 September 2026. The clock is ticking ⌛ #conservation

In May, a 57-year-old man was arrested in Serbia. He is suspected of deliberately killing a strictly protected Cinereous Vulture. The police investigation and the arrest in this case send an important signal: some authorities in the country are taking wildlife crime seriously. #birds More info ⬇️

1/ Today, we’re celebrating the International Day for Biological Diversity. But nature in Europe is in crisis and biodiversity is collapsing. In 2024, EU Member States agreed to restore all degraded ecosystems by 2050, including land, sea, forests, rivers and urban areas.

Serious damage is happening right now in the Vjosa-Narta Protected Area in Albania ❗ The Albanian Government must halt construction immediately and take its commitments towards EU serious! #conservation © Photos: Xhemal Xherri, Adrian Guri, Arsen Rroshi, PPNEA, EuroNatur

Ohne Genehmigung. Ohne Umweltverträglichkeitsprüfung. Und das während laufender EU-Beitrittsverhandlungen.
