Last year my six-year-old really wanted to be David Bowie for Halloween and we planned for it for an entire month. Then he got sick the day of. This year he wants a redo. Here is the playlist for the following week.
This album will be twenty years old in March. It still sounds so pure and layered and just, full, full of internal mystique and lyrical adventure. It traps me every time I invite it to the speakers. Alters my days.
“Am I an angry yet somehow after all complacent farmyard spinster, wrapped in the embrace of my furies? Do I truly wish to get beyond myself?”
Played this while my two young kids were playing “Adventure Awaits,” a game they made up about mapping our house for forgotten treasures, and it felt right in line.
I suppose my first post in this color of the sky will have to be from the break I took on a long run this morning to see if the big snapping turtle friend was around for a chat.
