This shot breaks my heart. It's so effective, they recreated it as a still for the lobby card. #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill
Here’s the Luxe Radio Theatre episode of THUNDER ON THE HILL which originally aired on November 9th 1953. Too bad the audio quality on this one isn’t the best Starring: Claudette Colbert as Sister Mary, Barbara Rush as Valerie Carns w/ Norma Varden & Paul Frees #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill

I'm a lapsed Catholic, but films w/ beautiful Christian iconography still make me gasp. #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill
This tilt from the ringing bell to the nuns exiting the church is beautiful. The nuns have got to be rear projection. I don't think they could get the necessary depth doing it practically. #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill
Art Direction by Bernard Herzbrun and Oscar winner Nathan Juran. This is Universal Monsters-level artistry. #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill
*chef's kiss* #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill
This is when this film really starts to feel like THE SISTER MARY MYSTERIES. Claudette Colbert and Connie Gilchrist make a delightful team. (And also: motivated, practical lighting.) #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill
Now this is a Sirkian window! A literal divider between freedom and confinement. #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill
I haven't mentioned much about the cinematography, but THUNDER ON THE HILL is quite beautifully shot by William H. Daniels. This sort of natural lighting (and deep focus) is a good reminder that Daniels was an Oscar winner for THE NAKED CITY (1948). #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill
Some viewers are disappointed by THUNDER ON THE HILL because it lacks the outsized melodrama they've expect from Sirk. Well, Ann Blyth is here to take care of that. #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill
It took 17 minutes, but we finally got some Sirkian windows and mirrors in THUNDER ON THE HILL. Let the entrapment and role-playing commence! #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill
Love the look of this film so far....and what an excellent gaggle of supporting characters. #TheNoirCollective #ThunderOnTheHill
Here for (my first-time watch) #TheNoirCollective THUNDER ON THE HILL (1951), hosted by @willmckinley.bsky.social! And if this image isn't a F-YEAH FILM NOIR, then I don't know what is!

NGL this is very satisfying seeing my zine NOIR CRAZY in a physical storefront! After a career as a bookseller stocking & ringing up other people's publications, knowing my own blood, sweat, and tears (and $) print matter is on a newsstand out there amazes me. 5 years later from a simple sketch.
My zine @noircrazyzine.bsky.social is featured this week in the HI DESERT TIMES MAGAZINES weekly newsletter! lizlapp.substack.com Their storefront in 29Palms, CA, gave 4 copies of Issue 001—The Noir Highway a nice home for customers, the first time NCZ has been in a physical storefront. #FilmNoir
