Man I hate that new episode of Star Trek where the character gets turned into a weird object and even has holes put in them, then it turns out to have all been a dream of the autistic-coded nonhuman character working through some emotions…

So like, in the Xfiles reboot, Joel McHale is Alex Jones but he knows conspiracies that are real but sells ones that are lies…. I’m not entirely sure how to process that one. Also… zero reference to Doggett and Reyes? Like not even an offhanded thing? I loved Doggett, man was a human puppy dog.

Just watched the original run of the X-Files revival. The finale is a bit of a “well here’s everything laid out for you as easily as possible with some cameos for fun” but honestly where they end it with Mulder and Scully isn’t wholly unsatisfying… now on to the revival seasons…

"You cannot separate the art from the artist when the art is literally bankrolling the artist's hate campaign" - @jessiegender.bsky.social 100% this. Rowling is an enemy to all us trans folk who just want to live our lives in peace. You cannot claim to be my ally & still support her trash.

Corporations are not “capitulating to facism” and we need to stop saying that. It lets them off the hook. They are complicit in enabling facism, as they know it moves the Overton window, giving them greater power over the state apparatus, even in future liberal governments.

Need help with something. What are some movies or tv shows that have made Harry Potter references in the past year or so? Extra points if the show is made by Warner Bros or HBO, but doesn’t have to be exclusive to them.

Mildly annoyed they’re not showing Star Trek: Undiscovered Country in theaters like the rest of the TOS movies, when it’s by far the one I want to see in theaters the most. Hell I’d even rather see Generations for the first time in theaters then Wrath of Khan back in theaters for the tenth time.

This just reenforces bioessentialism around gender in sports. There are some sports where women beat men, where men beat women, some where it doesn't matter, frankly, people individually are distinct. The main reason we segregate on sex is to defund women's sports & reenforce bioessentialism.

The intersexed are an extremely small subset of people who can be addressed individually. It's not one big trans basket. Women and men competing at the highest level in sports are physically different. That's not debatable.

For a quick exp, there are people who argue the solution is for trans ppl to be allowed in sports who have undergone 2 years of hrt; as a way to weed out liars. 1) this ignores that not all trans ppl can afford hrt and 2) not all trans ppl want to go on hrt. Shouldn’t they be allowed in sports too?

While I understand articles like this are sympathetic to trans athletes, I still bristle at the way liberals argue for trans inclusion - describing hrt as “chemical castration” instead of liberatory, or arguing for trans women inclusion because HRT makes us weaker like (implicit “real”) women.

"Ultimately, the gadflies don’t seem to actually understand how being a transgender athlete works. The idea that cisgender men like Enes and Royce would voluntarily undergo chemical castration to try to join the WNBA and make a minuscule rookie salary is farcical on its face."

So I watched the latest Jackass movie tonight… then went to watch an XFiles episode and entirely coincidentally is the episode where Aaron Paul guest stars doing a fake Jackass parody.

I'm curious to see how Ryan Coogler handles the reboot. On the one hand, the distrust of the government vibe will age well, I think. But then the "conspiracy theories are right," and the general sense that the government is competent enough to enact them has definitely not.

Everyone told me Season 8 and 9 of X-Files sucks (hell, that pretty much everything past Season 6 sucked), but while it's certainly not PEAK X-Files, it holds up better than I think folks remember. Tho I do have the reboot seasons to go...

So I’m watching Xfiles for the first time and I’m on season 8; and is it a hot take to say I actually like Dogget and Reyes, and REALLY enjoy Scully’s arc of being forced to be the “believer” now that Mulder is gone, and I only wish the actual monster-of-the-week stories were stronger.
