I see a lot of "why should he have to publicize it to the world". Because he chose a public career. If he were a private person he should tell the people around him but he chose to be a public individual, that comes with more responsibility.

I loved Jacob’s work to. It inspired me. That’s not gonna change. It will always be a part of my life. But I wish I had given that love and time and money and attention to someone who was also making great art who hadn’t violated someone so completely. He didn’t give me that choice. I have it now.

It honeslty just shows me how much rape culture exists. With James Somerton, we all collectively agreed he didn’t deserve a platform anymore, and he disappeared. I’m sure he’s got some job somewhere, living a life. But an admitted rapist, well, he we must forgive, because some of us liked his stuff.

Finally saw The Uprising. Feels like a vauge outline of a movie. Structurally it’s fine (except the end) but nothing feels specific. Characters talk only in vague generalities or plot, like someone meant to plug in specific traits and personality later on. Bummer cause it’s an interesting time.

I think it is evidence of how so much we have been made to think that gaining an audience is the goal of life in this attention-seeking economy that saying "a rapist shouldn't seek a public persona that is available for consumption" is taken as equivalent to saying they "can never rejoin society."
