*editor vent* It is SO frustrating when I've reviewed an article, given thoughtful feedback, engaged a peer reviewer, and then when I do final checks before offering a revision, half the citations are MADE UP (i.e., AI-generated). !!!! Trust yourself. Don't do this.

Today, I submitted an abstract proposal, saw a friend, held an info session for my program, and started to give feedback on a dissertation. Feels like a lot of half-accomplished tasks but... 1. Today is complete. 2. I did enough. 3. My brain can rest now.
Today, I answered/actioned on emails. Went to the gym. Then answered more emails. 1. Today is complete. 2. I did enough. 3. My brain can rest now. (tho if I'm honest, I don't really believe those three statements rn)
Today, I gave a keynote to grandparents about working w/ multilingual learners in a mentoring program. I then published Episode 3 of TheBilingualProfessor podcast. Yes, there are MANY tasks I have not tended to BUT 1. Today is complete. 2. I did enough. 3. My brain can rest now.
Today, I helped out at my daughter’s school, went on a lunch date, began to work on a chapter, brought kids to gymnastics, and had a family movie night at home. I am now contemplating a night time workout. 1. Today is complete. 2. I did enough. 3. My brain can rest now.
Today I recorded videos to promote content for a journal, worked out, attended 3 meetings, then brought the kids to swimming class. Finalized some things for my kid's teacher (I'm the room parent) at night. 1. Today is complete. 2. I did enough. 3. My brain can rest now.
Today I put 22 articles through peer review (and rejected 6). Had three meetings on different research projects. And interviewed a candidate for my program (who I hope comes!). I also made bread! 1. Today is complete. 2. I did enough. 3. My brain can rest now.
1. Today is complete. 2. I did enough. 3. My brain can rest now. 4. I do not need to solve tomorrow tonight. 5. The life I want is built thru small aligned decisions. Thank you @drteresaevans. This will be my summer mantra at the end of each work day. Breathe in. Breathe out.

There is a half-eaten boiled egg somewhere in my house that my 3 year old was working on this morning before I herded them out the door for school. I’m going crazy looking for this boiled egg and am reflecting on what a unique phase of life I am in…
Episode 2 of The Bilingual Professor Podcast is here: The “Confusion” Myth. When bilingual kids mix languages, pause for words, or move through a silent period, they’re often labeled “confused.” But the science says otherwise. open.spotify.com/episode/120W... #Bilingualism #Parenting

7 year old woke me up to (urgently!) help her as she made a list of things to do to prepare for Mother's Day. Proud that she takes after her father's list-making type-A heart... sprinkled with a tad of self-loathing.
For those of you seeking that tenure track position in California ⛽️🫠

Feeling beyond fortunate to have spent the last few days at the 8th Critical Mixed Race Studies Association Conference in L.A. This was my 3rd CMRS (though my 1st was virtual). It's only gotten better each year! An appreciation 🧵 for #CMRS #CMRS2026 criticalmixedracestudies.com

I have learned that I need to schedule weekly time blocks to be an effective journal Editor. So grateful to serve the field in this capacity.
Once again, the real reason I do research in Mandarin bilingual school communities is for the eats afterwards.
Edited book manuscript submitted to copyeditor and it's 766 pages!!! (two volumes) It's SUCH a powerful collection. I cannot wait to share it with the world. Now to write that intro... another day. 🥰
Back in Malibu for a meeting. I love teaching in a graduate school, but there’s something about being immersed in the ecology of an undergrad institution. I just feel the synergy.
I miss having a space to just post random thoughts. Anyone else's university email system totally breaking down? Perhaps it's 2026's way of telling me to slow down.
My hot take on why schools in the United States treat bilingualism like a liability and not an asset in the very first few days of kindergarten. www.linkedin.com/pulse/why-sc...
Why Schools in America Treat Bilingualism Like a Liability, Not an Asset
When I filled out my daughter’s kindergarten intake form, I thought I was honoring her bilingualism. Instead, I triggered a test that told me how little our schools value languages beyond English.
