This is the first time I’ve seen ChatGPT render a custom interactive mini tool UI, in this case a calculator, to answer one of my questions. I think a big part of the future of software lies in this blend of conversations with agents and custom interactive UIs.

"Some people in the West might see A.I. as a job killer or the cyborg assassin in The Terminator. But in Japan, people are more likely to associate the technology with Doraemon, the cuddly robotic cat" Everything at the end, is narrative economics. https://archive.ph/hSByc

In 20 years, vibe coders will look at the Linux kernel repo the way we look at the pyramids. In awe, unable to imagine how they managed to drag all those giant stones and pile them up in the middle of the desert.

Another great piece by Civio explaining how Spain’s prison permit algorithm works—and its biases. It hasn’t been updated since 1993!

If you’ve never heard of How To with John Wilson, do yourself a favor and put it on tonight or this weekend on HBO Max. One of the most underrated shows in history. They’re like mini-documentaries about everyday life in New York.

I have salespeople chasing me all day trying to sell me B2B software through LinkedIn, cold calls while I spend my day chasing plumbers to get things fixed at home. Capitalism is sending a signal, AI writes code so well but robot hands still can’t quite manage to properly connect two pipes!

The thing about agents in the new version of Cursor is crazy. It created a medium-complex functional DBT model using BigQuery data from GA4 in just 3 minutes with a single prompt. It generated all the files, the code, installed packages, and even recovered from errors all on its own…

So many people have tried this before and failed… What Bluesky is achieving is amazing and critical for the future of social media. Truly becoming an open protocol for social networks, like the internet or email itself and easy to use, is no easy task!

Bluesky is a PBC (public benefit corporation) with the mission “to develop and drive large-scale adoption of technologies for open and decentralized public conversation.” From the start, our goal has been to build a decentralized social network that is usable by the mainstream.

Just as starting axes above zero is often considered bad practice, it can also be a good idea to leave the empty space up to 100%, as in this example, to emphasize how far all the categorical values are from achieving something.

This is a pretty great example of showing potential in a 📊 chart, or “nothing” in @visualisingdata.com terms. From a story about a math test for LLMs that they all pretty much fail at, and that they can’t be trained on because the actual questions are secret. arstechnica.com/ai/2024/11/n...

A bar chart of different language models and the percentage of the test they were able to solve. The axis goes to 100%, even though none of the bars even reach 5%.
