The common darter is a very common dragonfly. As their name suggests, common darters dart forward suddenly from a hovering position to catch their insect-prey. They then take their catch to a favoured perch to eat it. In the late summer, common darters can be found almost everywhere. #FactFriday

Lady's bedstraw has small, narrow leaves on angular stems. The stems carry frothy heads of tiny, yellow flowers. Historically, lady's bedstraw was used to curdle milk in the process of cheese-making - a vegetarian replacement for rennet which is made from the stomach lining of cows. #FactFriday
