You’re sure most people have met one of his ilk – so in love with his own research, fostering a cult of personality about himself, and marking down students for not writing to his own bias. Text Box: Stately does not do it justice. The waistcoat alone is a masterpiece of embroidery. Wrapped in layers of fine wool and silks, it’s easy to see that he’s been interrupted in the midst of something important. That or the unavoidable wealth and privilege that would facilitate such apparel has coloured his perspective so completely that this is just how he reacts to any inconvenience. An unlikely prospect – subtlety and cunning are essential tools to navigating the ins and outs of a life like his, (at least if the period dramas you’ve seen are to be believed).

If you still had hands you imagine you might use them to wipe the entitled expression off the next emergent’s face. You can easily picture his day to day, or more accurately, the day to day of the people working under him; unreasonable requests passed down by middle management leading to mind-breaking deadline crunches and unpaid overtime. The only consolation is the thought that if he’s here, at least he can’t be tormenting his employees.

Text Box: When the next rift opens, you feel inexplicably drawn towards it, like a kite being reeled in. In your attempt to edge closer, the space itself narrows around the tear, a nameless yet uncannily familiar tune emanating from it. Amidst the mounting pressure, two flashes of light burst from the collapsing opening and it abruptly closes. The near-magnet pull ceases instantly, and you’re unsure as to whether you feel relieved or robbed by it’s absence.

Text Box: Before your focus can be lost to rumination, a series of odd, flickering lights catches your attention. It seems the earlier burst were more than an anomaly a sort of energy. Two energies to be precise. You watch as they dance, flitting about each other like butterflies, their colours blending and separating and blending again. It's like watching a conversation, or listening to a harmony. Their joy and delight is contagious, and the distant stars seem to shine more brightly for it.
