Birds mainly. Insects and Mammals likely. 🇪🇺🇯🇵 Birdquest Tour Leader, Sound recordist, Field Ecologist. Norfolk usually, Asia ideally

A New Year gift - Rough-legged Buzzard along the back lanes en route to the Norfolk coast, near Gresham village. Initially hovering close overhead, drifted down into a field by the time I could safely stop. Sat for a while before departing westward. No sexy pictures. #norfolkbirding

2/2 Zitting Cisticolas Clearly juveniles present with prominent pink bill bases/gapes, short tails, streaky crowns, also the presumed male (dull crown) coming with a mouthful of insects. Later 4 birds seen flying through the reeds, with 5 suspected, as reported later. Alas no photo #UKBirding

Sole Bay, Zitting Cisticola family nearby!

Decided a return visit to Walberswick was needed to improve on views of the Zitting Cisticola and try to get sound recordings. After finally getting a perched view, decided to hang on for more... I didn't expect to get three together in my scope! Two rounds of views, now up to four birds! #UKBirding

Eurasian Skylark _ Alauda arvensis An unexpected guest in my car while I was sitting in it! Escaping being eaten by a pursuing Merlin, once I had moved aside he flew out and went straight into a vigorous ascending songflight. The Merlin had to find its dinner elsewhere

Japanese Giant Flying Squirrel. Petaurista leucogenys. Karuizawa 20.02.25 Only my second-ever sighting. I noticed a good-looking natural tree hole, gave it a scratch, and out popped this beauty!
