Note to self: in proposals, talk about the “novelty and value” of your research, not the “novelty value” of your research 🤦🏻‍♂️

My heart breaks for the NSF officials who are forced to put out announcements like this. A very sad & terrifying time for all of us in science who have promoted -- and who I hope will continue to promote -- the basic principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in our work.

For the second consecutive year, Ontario Tech is Canada’s Research University of the Year, as designated by Research Infosource, Canada’s premier research ranking organization and leading provider of research intelligence for business and higher education.

So much of my job is this over and over again on a loop: "So what do you think we should do in order to responsibly build the Torment Nexus?" "You can't. It's a Torment Nexus. Stop it." "But the Torment Nexus is inevitable!" "It's not. You could just not do it. You could stop right now."

This moment in Bluesky is a great example of how joy itself can be defiance and resistance. We are just hanging out, shitposting, being silly, happy, and normal. It is being treated as if it is transgressive, opting out of the endless negativity. Because in a way, it is. Joy is my favorite weapon.

Seems like lots of folk suddenly started taking about Bluesky this week. I experienced this in different groups. Curious as to why. Was there a big push somewhere? Did people leave Mastodon? And is it a new Twitter but like the old days? Or are we done with that model & this is something else? 🤔
