1/9 I am very happy to share a new special issue of the Journal of Economic Policy Reform, which I co-edited with Merve Sancak and Andreas Nölke: “Industrial Policy beyond the Hegemons” which examines how non-hegemonic powers respond to geoeconomic competition.

Reading today Giovanni Arrighi's 2-part essay "Hegemony unravelling" (published in 2005), which is on the "the terminal crisis of US hegemony" precipitated by the Iraq invasion, is a surreal experience

This is *exactly* the kind of liberal anxieties that we wrote about in the penultimate chapter of The Spectre of State Capitalism. Could have written this edito myself. The risks of borrowing from China’s economic playbook - www.ft.com/content/b5d6...

The UK must decarbonise. A state-led planning approach is key to this mission but requires increased capacity. Our current institutional architecture is fragmented, underpowered & built for a different era. 🧵This is how to fix it. Simone Gasperin 🖊️ www.common-wealth.org/publications...

Mapping UK Green Planning Architecture

The UK's green planning institutions are fragmented and underpowered. To deliver decarbonisation, this institutional architecture must be reimagined.
