I'm seeing what I think are some horrendously low academic plagiarism standards being defended these last few weeks. Quoting and paraphrasing correctly without plagiarizing is so easy and should be second nature by the time you're PhD'ing. I don't even see they grey area. (1/4)

Alberta Minister wants a G-bear hunt, pretends it's about public safety. He wants to let people hunt B-bears with dogs, pretends it's about saving caribou. Sustainable hunts, data-based, are just fine, but this minister ignores biologists and spreads misinformation. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Alberta says hunting bears with dogs will protect caribou. The province's former caribou manager disagrees | CBC News
Letting hunters use dogs to hunt black bears is a move the Alberta government says will help caribou conservation efforts, but wildlife biologists aren't convinced.

Does my memory deceive me or aren't these the same people who have pushed the baseless claim for decades that videogames are what turn boys into school shooters? But they're fine with them controlling air traffic?

I get so annoyed whenever I read comments about karma. You all need to stop hoping that whatever magic Karma is supposed to be is just going to do the hard work for you. That's a comforting fantasy. In reality, bad people do not get punished unless good people make an effort to punish them.
It has become apparent to me that the boomers who often do hunting advocacy and head up hunting orgs absolutely love AI-slop. They put it in everything, and they really need to stop it. They don't know how many people who care about conservation they're alienating by using AI-imagery everywhere.

The chapter in our trophy hunting book about the effect of hunting on horn-, antler-, and body sizes, which @marcofesta.bsky.social was nice enough to give helpful comments for, was one of the most interesting to write, and I wish I could have gone much deeper. 😮 Trump's nominees are the most pathetic men in the world 😮 During a hearing, Blumenthal made Trump nominees squirm by asking them who won the 2020 election -- a question they refuse to answer -- but then Schiff upped the ante by asking them *who won the 2016 election.* Here's a supercut:
