I was so sure I'd ditch the crutches when I went into work, but I failed to consider that my ankle would be angry after the physical therapist worked on the scar tissue this morning. Cue painfully hobbling down the loooong hallways. Ah well. Recovery is non-linear, and I need to keep that in mind.

Part of the reason a lot of super rich people are so awful is that when normal people get an absurd amount of money, they immediately start looking around for who they can help.
Rachel Reid, who wrote the popular “Heated Rivalry” novel, has donated $300k to Annapolis Valley Regional Library, “one of the most significant private gifts” in their history. “I credit my local library for being a huge part of the reason I’m a published author today,” Reid said #Halifax #HaliSky
New milestone: Took a walk around the neighborhood at lunch, without crutches. It wasn't fast and I was limping at the end, but it was over half a mile so I'll take it.
Update on my ongoing PrEP saga (bsky.app/profile/dunc...): First, I want to say I'm documenting this here because it's important that people know what to expect. This is a weird and awkward process, but vital information for sexually active queer (and straight!) folks.

While I do not enjoy playing the obstinate asshole toward my co-workers, if they make stupid demands that are beyond their role and authority that will require resources from my team then yeah - I'll be that asshole.
The finished product: Pistachio Chocolate Chip Cookies! www.seriouseats.com/pistachio-ch... The verdict: Tasty! Worth the additional expense of pistachios and pistachio butter? Questionable. I'd be fine using plain ol' walnuts. Still, I have 36 of these cookies all to myself, so that ain't bad!
This is promising, at least. "We are experiencing an issue and are investigating We have identified the root cause of the incident and we are continuing to work to restore service. August 16, 2026 at 14:58 GMT+00:00" status.bsky.app
Baking adventures are happening! Also, holy heck - I thought natural peanut butter was tough to stir, but pistachio butter is worse.
Cleaning chores are done for the day! Now to make some lunch, review some things for MFF, and bake some cookies. I have new recipe I want to try!
Not so gentle reminder that con staff are unpaid volunteers giving up what little free time they have to put on incredible events for you Being rude, inflammatory and downright nasty to them about things beyond their control is disgusting and I WILL judge you harshly for it

To follow up: Utterly charming, and made me tear up in the best way. Sweet disaster twink meets ace cinnamon roll single dad (kinda) in a small-town romance. Finley is his own worst enemy, but I can sympathize with his doom-spiraling. Rating: 5 out of 5! www.goodreads.com/book/show/25... #MMRomance

Great physical therapy news: everything is FINALLY healed up (should have happened by week 3-4, not week 15) and the therapist could start working on the scar tissue. Even 15 min of massaging made a huge difference in the amount of pain with each step. I'm hopeful recovery will speed up from here.
This has not been my year at all. Looking... hoping for help. gofund.me/d47a18b53

While I like having a weather radio (I'm in the Midwestern US, where tornados are a very real thing), I could have done without the 4 AM alarm for a severe thunderstorm that missed me by 20 miles.
Note to self: Do not look at Petfinder until you can actually, you know, walk a dog.
Today's trip was marginally less painful than last week's, so I guess that is a win? And yeah, I could have groceries delivered and in some cases it works well, but the times I've tried to order produce have been disastrous so I prefer to shop for that myself.
Holy hell, my ankle is letting me know in no uncertain terms exactly how much all of today's walking over uneven terrain is not appreciated. Time to break out the ice pack (again).
The terrain at the Ren Faire is…a lot.I'm good for one circuit around, but then I'm done. Fortunately that will be just in time for this to roll in.
I'm at Bristol Renaissance Faire today, at least until the storms roll through. After that, well, we'll see. Mud + crutches aren't a great combination.
The ren faire was a bust, so I decided to hit some breweries I haven't been to in a while. This place in Barrington does interesting, sometimes "difficult" beers (read: wild fermentation beers), but it's worth a stop. This Six Years an Orchard saison is a collab with More Brewing. It's quite tasty!
