read your literary grandparents. whatever writer inspires you and seems like a genius, check out who inspired them. it will confirm what makes them unique but also reveal how traceable their influences are. it teaches you new craft tools and relieves some pressure. no one writes in isolation.*
Writers: what’s a solid piece of *craft* advice you wish you’d known sooner? Mine is this: when making writing decisions, always stop and ask yourself what is best for the SCENE. What are the scene’s goals? Does this sentence, this paragraph, this line of dialogue serve those goals? If not, fix it.
Watched the recent @parlorroom.dropout.tv where the group of folks play the game Pass the Pigs. And I'm now dead set on using pig dice for my next TTRPG's resolution. Double Leaning Jowlers are now critical successes. Makin' Bacon is a crit fail.
Collective action creates power. Love to see it, excited for how this protects the people who are actually creating the products we love at WOTC. Would love to see other unionizing/profit sharing/other collective models at TTRPG companies beyond WOTC/Hasbro, but this is a great sign.
Announcing United Wizards of the Coast - CWA!
MTG Arena workers announce unionization as United Wizards of the Coast-CWA, calling on WOTC to voluntarily recognize their union and begin collective bargaining.

A friend recently asked me how I was doing. And I said "I'm doing well, just angry." Been angry a long time, friends. And ready to stay angry.
Great thoughts in Ashlee Lhamon's debut Substack post: "We’ve all read absolutely sloggy stories about alien invasions and absolutely gripping ones about gardening." Read the rest here: thepulppit.substack.com/p/what-we-ta...

Some great stories here from @mynachang.bsky.social , @kcmeadbrewer.com , and @angelaliu.bsky.social! Check out the whole list. Eugenia is one of my favorite writers, and her taste is immaculate.
Crawling back from a very nasty bout of flu by posting some of my favorite stories I read last year. Is it a perfect list? No, there's a ton of amazing stuff out there. But I am happy with it and I hope you can find something in here for you <3
It's time for an awards eligibility post! This year was a pretty dry one, with most of my acceptances coming in the back end of the calendar. That said, I have two small flash pieces that I'd like you to consider (and even if you don't nominate them, give them a quick read--they're fun!)
Just sitting at my desk crying because I decided to catch up on @xkcd.com after traveling last week and got hit with Fifteen Years. Probably my favorite string of XKCD comics. xkcd.com/3172/

I've had some writer friends with similar experiences. Reposting for visibility and also so folks who have had issues can contact Victoria.
